During a Christmas Party about a week ago, I felt very very small as I sat there listening to a room full of people talk about how lame minivans were. There were not many topics discussed that night that everyone was in total agreement with….we had some interesting debates. However when the minivan topic came up, they ALL agreed that they would never ever ever be caught dead driving one!!!I did not say anything. I just looked at my husband and gave him an embarrassed grin.
It took a lot for me to decide to get a minivan. I too was one of those people that would not be caught dead driving one. But once our third child came along, I had to take action. Therefore, I turned in my sporty Audi A4 for a Volkswagen Touareg. I knew I did not want a huge gas guzzling SUV.. so a small sporty SUV was the best choice…right?? WRONG!!! From day one, the kids were squished into the backseat. After about 5 months, I was forced to turn in my sporty SUV ( with the leather seats, wood grain, and DVD players in the headrest) for a minivan. Now-a-days, the only wood that can be found in this van is the mulch that the kids tracked in. But the kids are happy!! They loved the van from the start. And I must say, we were very comfortable on our family vacation this summer.
I am not to the point where I can proudly proclaim “I love my Van” as one mom told me in the mall parking lot one day. I smiled but could not return the sentiment. But I can say that I am happy that the kids have space and that they are comfortable. If I want to be sporty, I will just have to wait until my husband gets home to drive his car.

We travel to NC and Ohio at least twice a year and we always rent a minivan to travel in.(It must have a DVD player to keep the kids from asking me “Are we there yet?” every 2 seconds. I never wanted a minivan but the 2008 Chrysler Town and Country has definitely captured my interest. I have one of those gas guzzling SUV’s and it may be roomy, but not gas friendly. Everytime we rent a minivan, once I pull up in the driveway, my childrens eyes light up in the window because you know they are waiting and watching to see what we have now. They tell me how much they love it and want one for our family. That to me is everything, and I can envision me as a sexy mom inside also.
I was a mini-van hater…then went to SUV w. Third seat (4 kids)….but now I’m back to really wanting a mini-van…your perspective on mini-vans is all about your priorities….mine is comfort and convenience for the passengers and myself… check out the 08 Town and Country…what Dad wouldn’t love this?

Great blog…keep it up!
Ok, I have three kids and I am currently pregnant. The fact that I can press a button and the doors/trunk opens!!! On a rainy day you can jump in the back strap all the kids in and then move straight to the driving seat with out having to get out or jump over a seat. I can open the door and not worry about the kids hitting someone elses door. I love the whole concept!! I don’t have one, but I really want one. When you have kids its not about how you look its about getting around with ease. Trips to the store can be a struggle.
I LOVE my 2006 Town & Country! Power Buttons for rear and side doors. I also said I would NEVER drive a minivan. I had a Chrysler Pacifica before. The T&C is not as smooth of a ride, but it is much easier with my children soon to be age 4, soon to be 2 yrs and six months. Although, I need more space when I go grocery shopping at sam’s or Walmart……I only have to press the buttons and let the older kids climb into their seats, while I the baby in his seat. Buckle kids and then press buttons and GO!
Especially after a c-section!
All it took was one roadtrip with our daughter and dog to ditch the car (pontiac vibe) and buy a Sienna. My goodness, having just one kid and a dog fills up a regular car to the point of being uncomfortable. We drive 20+ hours to see my family and there’s no way I would do it twice in the tiny car. Minivans rule, I dont care if some hip young people thing they’re uncool, my own comfort (and family’s) is all that matters.
