Your Check Is In The Mail – Almost

The Dems and Republicans agreed on an economic stimulus package today so for the most part it boils down to singles getting 600.00 and married couples getting 1200.00.

A Democratic aide and Republican aide said there will be an additional amount per child, which could be in the neighborhood of $300. (CNN)

For those that are making money already… The rebates would phase out gradually for individuals whose income exceeds $75,000 and couples with incomes above $150,000, aides said. Individuals with incomes up to $87,000 and couples up to $174,000 would get partial rebates. The caps are higher for those with children. (MSNBC)

In addition what they’re not talking about that could be a big part of the plan is that the limit for FHA loans has been raised from approx. 400K depending on Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to 725K in high cost areas.

Couple this with the recent interest rate cuts and more that may be on the way and we may be on to something. At least for the time being. On a day like this having all these kids at home feels good :-)

I have mixed feelings about this rebate. On the one hand, it is always nice to get a check in the mail. But does this really do anything to boost the economy?

When we received our check a few years back, it was the same week that we went on vacation… so guess where that money went.

I guess the point of this is to spend it and put the money back into the economy. I will have to pay attention this time to really see if this will have a good impact on the economy.

Also, on the news or one of the news programs, I heard someone say that people that don’t even pay taxes will get a rebate..is this true?

If you don’t file income taxes you can still get a rebate as long as you pay social security taxes. I’m optimistic cause we’ve been flirting with a recession for the past few years and I ain’t trying to go there.
