Positive Black Families

A byproduct of Obama becoming President would be something not many people are talking about. A positive black family displayed for the world to see. Do you think this would change perceptions towards Blacks from outside cultures? Do you think it would change the perception from within our culture for that matter? A mother and father in the home with the kids. (Hopefully that wouldn’t render this blog useless) It would be interesting and almost revolutionary in today’s times when it’s not cool to be married or for fathers to raise their kids. Michelle Obama is a lawyer who was educated at Princeton and Harvard Law School. Currently she makes twice that of her famous husband

I hope it does change the perceptions of black families in America. My reservation is the mindset of those who naturally think that they are superior to blacks. My husband who is a USNA Annapolis graduate had this experience: he and some non-black classmates were riding around in New York City where some young black kids were playing around boxing. One of those guys in the car said look at those “niggers”. My husband said that he immediately responded “Man, what’s up with that? I’m black!” His response was “yeah, but you are different.”. Different. We (my family) are always seen as different, the exception among our non-black peers. Most non-blacks instinctively correlate black people with being bafoons, ignorant, poor and uneducated. So, maybe the question is will the Obama’s be seen as just different or will it cause others to reconsider the sterotypes burned in their minds. So, let’s pray that it will have some impact because I am so very proud of them.

I’m not at all concerned with the perception of the black family from outsiders. A black family is as rare as unicorns out here in Los Angeles. Having an Obama family in the white house would be a good symbol, but it’d be far more important to have NEIGHBORHOODS

Mrs. D is on point. The Obamas will be viewed as “different”. But we need to promote this view about black families. I believe it will, in time, change peoples’ views. It will eventually be the norm instead of the exception. It is such a shame that positive things for black people has to be viewed and reviewed and contemplated. Remember the flack Bill Cosby got for the Cosby show? People,(blacks included), could not perceive that a black family such as this could be in existance. Now it is a possibility that a “Cosby” family could occupy the White House. I believe black families are in need of this dose of reality more than any other group of people. WE need to see us in this light, to be able to wrap our minds around it for more than just a made up concept for a t.v. sitcom.

As I linger on the picture, my eyes takes it into my subconscious and I look for that image in magazines, on television, anywhere I can view a positive image for black families. This is what my eyes, my mind and my heart searches for in my people. They don’t have to be wealthy with money. Even a struggling family, with father, mother and babies working together is a positive image. As long as the family structure is in tact. Nevertheless, the Obamas look great, and they can only give the White House a better look.

My family, is headed by two persons, neither being superior to the other. Black Men must get past the issues of your wife making more than you! That silliness is destroying us. Another problem that I see the Obamas having solved is that there is no one “head” of the family. Like my Queen, Michelle Obama is strong, intellectual and not to be played for the fool. My wife and I operate on perfect balance, as we use the ancient principle called MAAT to assist us. MAAT is Truth, Balance, Reciprocity, Justice, Righteousness and Order. By using the principle of perfect harmony between our Masculine and Feminine energy we worship a true higher order of understanding. This belief is what we believe to be the real key to growing spiritually and mentally sound Black Families.
