Black and Married Spotlight! - “The Dantzlers”
While Tia is performing her craft of being a celebrity makeup artist to the likes of notable celebs like Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West and presidential hopeful Barack Obama her husband Thomas is holding it down with his own business “Anointed Steam” and working to grow the couples next venture, Elevate. This spirited couple in Illinois is definately making power moves while being… Black and Married With Kids. Check out our interview we had with the two of them.
BMWK: Thomas and Tia how long have you known each other and how
long have you been married?
Thomas and I have known each other for 17 years and been married for 11 years.
BMWK: Tia how did you know Thomas was the one?
One reason that lead me to believe that Thomas was the one, was how he helped me truly grow in the Lord. Through his unwavering relationship with the Lord, it influenced me to also sustain a personal relationship with the Lord. For that reason, I am forever grateful to my husband Thomas.
BMWK: Thomas how did you know Tia was the one?
When I first met Tia I knew it was something special about her. Not only did she have a beautiful smile, I found her to be a very ambitious and kind-hearted person. She brought out things in me that I didn’t even know that I had. I truly thank the Lord for bringing us together.
BMWK: How many kids do you have and how old are they?
We have two beautiful girls one is 7 years and the other is 15 years old.
BMWK: Tia I know that you travel a lot being a celebrity makeup artist. How
do you handle being away from the kids and family? Besides your husband do you have a support system of family and friends that help out?
At first it was very difficult as I am very close with my girls, however, as time went on it got a little easier. My youngest daughter made me promise to bring her gifts whenever I go out of town so she would definitely look forward to seeing what I had purchased for her. I talk to my family on a daily basis when I’m not home. Another way we communicate is through text messaging and emails. Yes, my Mom and Dad help out a lot when I’m gone for longs periods of time.
BMWK: Thomas, the two of you own Anointed Steam (A Carpet Cleaning
Business) and Elevate (A Management Company being developed into a full
service agency), do you or will you try to instill your since of
entrepreneurship into your kids?
Definitely, we encourage them to be the best at whatever they choose to do. We want our children to rule and reign in whatever capacity their in.
BMWK: What are some things you’ve learned over the years that help you to
deal with conflict and disagreements?
Often times it’s not as bad as we think it is. We’ve learned through time and error that it’s all just a test. Also, choose your battles wisely.
BMWK: What type of things do you do to keep you relationship fresh and exciting?
We spend quality time together without the kids. We also love to try new restaurants and we utterly believe in communicating on a daily basis no matter the distance.
BMWK: What is a perfect night out for the Dantzler couple?
One of our favorite things to do in the summer is going to this Chicago eatery and ordering some fish & shrimp and sitting by the Lakefront at nighttime enjoying each other, the lake and the scenery.
BMWK: What advice would you give newlyweds or engaged couples?
Always keep God first and remember you will go through trials and disagreements, but it’s only going to bring you closer together in the end. And never let divorce be a thought.
