What Types of Flaws are Acceptable in a Candidate?

Our teenage son is doing a project for his government class where he has to pick 2 candidates and do some research on their past and accomplishments and compare where they stand on certain issues. I was impressed when my son came to me to tell me about how Hillary wants Universal Health Care and that Obama’s plan is not mandatory for everyone..but that it is mandatory for kids. After doing some more research, he came back to me with a surprised look..he said “Did you know that Obama and Hillary are for abortion….pro-choice!!! He was disappointed. I told him that you are not going to agree with all of your candidate’s views. But I think that this revelation would have been a deal breaker for my son (if he was old enough to vote.)

The number of candidates has dwindled down to 3 very strong contenders. And we have seen a million debates where we get to hear each of their view’s on the issues. Eventually, the candidates are going to start attacking each other’s character…digging deep to find flaws in their competitors. Everyone seems to love Obama….but are we prepared to hear about his skeletons? Is there anything that could make you switch to another candidate…. infidelity, shady business deals, etc…

Seems like you are raising a fine young man. I allow my children to express their own opinions. Pro choice is a touchy issure. It is a womans body but there are no laws for her to consult the father about her decision. On the question at hand, if you dig enough you will find flaws in anyone. I am ready for a change, I am ready for “new management” I have weighed the pros with the cons and I am 100% sure who I will vote for president.

I am not voting based on gender, race or religion. I am voting first, because it is my freedom, secondly because if I don’t I don’t have the right to complain about things that are wrong by not casting my vote and third there is too much to lose by not voting. I reallly hope that my vote does count in this free country that we call AMERICA.

Do we agree with all the candidates and their points of view? No. If I had to nit pick each of the candidates I would not be voting. I have to think and decide who will do the best job. I don’t want anything forced on me as far as politics go. I do know that I want a change in presidents and I am proud to be apart of Obama and Hillary vying for the job. Yes we have had a woman and black men run for the office of president before but to me those people who ran before (Rev. Al, Jessie Jackson , they gave me hope and set the back drop for a white woman and a black man to be educated and personable to be our next leader. I think I may still have the badge from 1988 when Jessie Jackson was running for the worst job in America. Health Care is an important issue. What about Social Security, will it be around in 25 years when I am suppose to retire?

Great post and question. I know how Obama feel about abortion and same sex marriage which I agree with.

After that speech he gave the other day if it came out that he was not a Christian I would not vote for him.
