   i wouldn't say that michelle degraded herself by calling barack her baby's daddy. but with ALL that we as a people have going on, we need to realize that for WHATEVER reason some of the things we say and do when it's just us, doesn't work too well when it's done in the larger community.

   I would have to agree with kim's post. We may use the terms "baby's daddy" and "baby's momma" at home and amongst "us" but we shouldn't use it on such a large scale. However, it has been my experience that we are not the only ethnic group who uses the term on a regular basis. I have caucasian clients who talk to me on a daily basis about their "baby's daddy".    Well...I mean he is her baby's daddy and she is his baby's mama. Now it is what it is. I think for a "reputable" news source like FOX to put some crap like that up seems a bit much. But then again they do a lot Obama smashing as well.

   I agree Jaclynn, Fox News does alot of Obama bashing. Just their way of showing their immaturity. If Michelle did say that then I'm sure it was in a playful way. I believe fox ran with it because to them it is easier to look at a black women and refer to her as a baby mama, but we all know that she is his wife and the Mother of his children.

   That's another one of those "things". Kinda like the fist pound thing. It speaks to their "black credibility". One of those things that alright for US to say but not for THEM to say. Problem is...they are in too large of an arena to subscribe to such things. They forfieted the right when he ran for senate. And now...such things are open season for FOX and anyone else. ITs too bad.

   Our Future First Lady is only using the slang of our culture. I only saw it as being witty and playful. Much to do about nothing. Mrs. Obama makes more money then her husband, does that mattter? She was his mentor. A real man does not care who makes more. Marriage is not a competion but sharing things/inspiration together. A real man will man up and realize that he is still the man of the family. The woman will always be the backbone of a family (whether she works out side the home or not).

    I can't believe you guys are letting Fox off this easy. This is totally unacceptable. The producer whose decision it was to flash this description on the screen probably has no friggin' idea about how the phrase is used in the African American vernacular. This was a way to put Mrs. Obama on the same level as the half naked chicks prominently shown on BET and the like; the only image that the predominant culture is comfortable with when it comes to portraying any black woman. theruffians last blog post..True Colors

The black community is enraged by a comment made by FOX news referring to Michelle Obama as a “baby mama”. But few remember when Michelle Obama referred to Barack as her “baby’s daddy” on the night he won his Senate seat in 2004.

    You just have to watch how you joke around white people....because ultimately... somehow ..they end up insulting you. I try not to joke with them at work. If you slip-up and say one slang term...it will give them the go-ahead to use it with you all of the time. For example, I have never used slang with my manager. We had a weekly conference call and when you joined the call..you had to say hello in a different language. I usually picked French or Spanish..as that was easiest for me. Well one week... she decided that she would greet each person on the team by saying hello in a different language to them as they joined the call. Well when I joined the call... she said " What's UP"... I said .... Why in the world would you use "What's UP with me..... you picked so many different languages for everyone on the team... but for me the only black person... she said "What's up!!" I was livid.

I have a white couple who just adores me and love the pic on my desk of my brown skin children. Gas prices are too high for them to come and visit me, but they do call once a month with a "dirty (non racial)joke. I know who I can cuss out and who to tip toe around. I also know that I have a voice and when white ppl use the word "colored" I tell them "you can call us black". their mouth drops because they did not realize I was black. Priceless moments I get to have at work each day. I have been at my job for 9 years and I can only say that I learn somethng new each day and at the same time I am the teacher. The thing that amazes me the most is that black ppl don't know our own rainbow.
