30 August 2008 259 views 8 Comments

Every Saturday we take a writing break and provide you with a feature we call videos we love where we share some of our favorite songs, or videos courtesy of youtube. This week we have the battle of all battles in honor of the Senator from Illinois - Barack Obama. Judging from the comments that were left this was an emotional week for a lot of folks, especially Thurs. night and I felt this was a good song for this week.

Otis Redding - A Change Is Gonna Come

Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come

Lauryn Hill - A Change Is Gonna Come

Patti LaBelle-A Change Is Gonna Come

Luther Vandross…A Change Is Gonna Come

BMWK which one do you like the most? Both Otis and Sam Cooke killed it but did Lauryn surprise you? That’s old Lauryn not new Lauryn, and kinda big Lufer not lil Lufer… LOL. Do you think this is the perfect song for the current times or what? There were at least 5 more versions on youtube including some done by, Supremes, Bobby Womack and Tina Turner but these are the ones I thought were the best. Drop a comment or at least a vote for who was the best.

Otis Redding was the best. I could feel the pain in his song…Like he has been through something and he was longing for this change.

I thought it was Luther Vandross. Shame Luther is gone! Oprah and Kanye said the speech changed their lives! Happy Labor day everyone. A holiday Canada and America share……

Wow, Sam & Otis: two brothers who died tragically, and way before their fans would have liked. I have to give the slight nod to Sam, simply because the posthumous nature of its release.

I can’t pick because I enjoy all the passion of all who did this wonderfulful song. I will say that I liked Luther as a big man. Some ppl can be big and still be healthier than a skinny person. I wish Lauryn will come back stong and give us what we know her to give. I do like the videos for us to choose from, but a good voice is a great voice and I am glad that this song means so much to our country. A great voice can sing the A B C’s and still get a reaction out of me. I hope everyone enjoys Labor Day and to the BMWK family, thanks for the clips. It makes me remember what true music was. I do enjoy todays music but less of it. The so called new artist mix in our music from back in the day and I have to tell my kids this is real music and they mix it in a rap song.

Wow, now that takes me back. I like Otis and Sam but I am more drawn to the Sam Cooke’s version because it reminds me of my grandfather’s club (known as the juke joint) back in Mississippi when we were growing up.

I like both Otis and Sam. With Otis you can feel the raw emotion, but for some reason whenever I hear Sam Cooke’s version of that song it gives me chills.

Loved Otis (as does my mom who loves Otis beyond all good sense), but Sam can always bring a tear to my eye…
