Special Moments With The Kids

Kids are such a blessing. What were some of the special or unforgettable good moments you had with your kids while they were growing up? (Don’t want to know how they are cutting up now that they’re grown :-) )

Watching my baby walk for the first time was something very special to me that I’ll never forgive since we had been working on it for a while and then out of the blue one night it was like someone turned on the light. Come on BMWK, share your moments.

I think that most in the room will agree with me that the most special moment is the birth of a child and holding them for the first time. It is breath taking and oh so emotional. You know that after that if you are so blessed you will experience thier first smile, laugh, first tooth, first hair cut. I think that a mom knows how to tune things out and realize everyday is special. Even the bad moments are special because you survived them(together).

My favorite moments with my son were the toddler years – not the terrible two’s on up…but the years where he was discovering himself and his surroundings…my favorite memory is of him waddling to the window when he was around 2 and noticed a cat outside the window and he went …”mommy – kitty kat, kitty kat mommy!” he ws so excited that he knew what it was that he wanted me to see it as well! and everyday that cat came by the window he would say the same thing…i still tease him about that til this day :)

Ruby128, thanks for sharing that. I can say that yes, seeing thngs for the firstt time from a childs (first) point of view is special. Kids do remind us how we can easily take things for granted. My kids are older but I can say that when they visit for “wnter break” the first significiant snow fall where you have to shovel snow is fun. In between shoveling we have a snowball fight, just as we did when they were younger.

I can remember my mom saying to us you have grown from little acorns to big nuts.

One of many precious moments I remember is when I took my little girl (1 and 1/2 at the time) out of town to a pro basketball game and walking up to the stadium showing her all of the big city lights outside of the stadium. She was in aww. When we got inside and I let her down to walk and she was even more in aww of the hugeness of the stadium. Her mouth was wide open and she was so amazed and appreciative to be there with so many other people. She was looking up and around so much she almost tripped over her own feet! I will never forget that.

Man, nothing compares to the actual birth. With my first I was pushing for TWO HOURS and I thought she’d never get here. But the moment I heard her and then saw her, I was overwhelmed. I could barely see her face through my tears.

My second was a much shorter delivery (three pushes and she was out) but it was just as amazing.

Since i am knee-deep in the terrible twos (ahhhhh!!!) I try to remember those early, tender moments A LOT. LOL!

I remember when my son first learned how to latch on when I was nursing him. I was so amazed at the fact that I had within me what he needed to survive. That basic need reinforced the fact that I do have within me what he needs to survive living in a world like this.

I was in the military when he was born, and when he was learning to crawl, I walked in the house with my battle dress and combat boots on, rough from PT and training, but the moment he saw me…rough me…rugged me…mama wears combat boots me, he tucked his head and crawled to get me quicker than I could blink. That was the best greeting I could have ever gotten.

Then, recently, we found an old muppet show clip called “mahna, mahna” on youtube.com. It’s pretty catchy. But when he sings it, he sings, “Ma-ma” instead of “Mahna, Mahna.” It’s so cute!

My favorite moment as a mom is when my child can say their 1st clear sentence lol… just to hear exactly where they are coming from..Everyone knows the feeling of being heard..
