Made In China! 4 Children Dead and 53 Thousand Sick With Tainted Baby Formula

China is at the center of another scandel. First it was dog food, then toys with lead paint now it’s baby formula. Officials have found the chemical melamine which is the same chemical that was found last year in the cat and dog food recalls in baby formula. Two men that are behind selling the tainted milk that was mixed into the formula could be given the death penalty in China.

This is from an article in CNN:

China’s Health Ministry said Sunday that about 13,000 children were hospitalized, while another 40,000 had undergone outpatient treatment for illnesses related to suspected melamine-tainted milk products.

The raw milk had been watered down and the chemical added to fool quality checks, the newspaper said. Melamine is commonly used in coatings and laminates, wood adhesives, fabric coatings, ceiling tiles and flame retardants. Watch CNN visit the company at the center of the scandal »

Health experts say ingesting melamine can lead to kidney stones, urinary tract ulcers, and eye and skin irritation. It also robs infants of much-needed nutrition.

Thousands of tons of the tainted milk powder have been recalled.

Melamine is the same industrial contaminant from China that poisoned and killed thousands of U.S. dogs and cats last year.

The chemical, a byproduct of plastic manufacturing, can be used to mimic high-protein additives.

Funny how this posts has a lot of views but no comments so I will break the ice. Breast.Feed.Your.Babies. These so-called food companies are all about profit and not at all about health. And if you think this can't happen in America, think again. It's bad enough that we are entrusting our safety to products made overseas but please don't entrust the life of your infant to these billion-dollar companies. The best and SAFEST way to nourish your child is to nurse for at least six months - after that many are ready to transition to some solids. It is a tough job but it is SAFE and HEALTHY and CHEAP. I wish I could help every black woman that needed guidance and support in her nursing journey but alas all I can do is use my big 'ol mouth and the internet. I'm not trying to past judgement and I know a lot of women face major hurdles when it comes to feeding but it is your right to provide your baby with the best source of nutrition. Living in America we can't even take care of what we already endure. We rely on so many different countries to import goods that are really no good to us, but harmful for us. How many countries are really helping us foot the bill for this war that we still can't figure out why we are there. As Huemanity stated, breast feeding is not only cheaper, no fridge or nuking necessary. It is also a bonding experince that you can't bater for all the tea in China.
