Define Maverick: What Is A Maverick?

in Politics

After hearing the word tossed around last night every five minutes some people are wondering what exactly is a maverick? Well…

mav·er·ick

One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter.
adj.

Being independent in thought and action or exhibiting such independence: maverick politicians; a maverick decision.

Do you think the Repubs. throwing this word around back and forth is helping the cause? Do you consider yourself a maverick or sorts? I’m the enforcer in my house, I lay down the majority of the punishments and the kids know not that they better act right or else they’re in trouble so I guess I’m the maverick of the BMWK household. What are you the maverick of?

Thanks for the Defination! I kept reminiding myself to look her the word and never had a chance too. Yes, Republicians are abusing the word to the point I think they are acutally talking about a person.

My 1st thought; “someone watched Top Gun” before the Debates. If McCain is ‘Maverick’ (Tom Cruise), then I guess that makes her ‘Ice Man’ (Val Kilmer)… LOL

And extra-special LOL for: “being independent in thought” and by ‘independent’, you mean ‘good use of flashcards’, right? Riiiiiiiiiiight.

That chick is an idiot & had no business standing @ the podium AT ALL!

Mavericks tend to flame out because they tend to live on the edge simply to be rebellious. My cause is understanding and so I pursue those ends. I guess that makes me a maverick. LOL. Mavericks are needed but at times nust be contained.

McCain/Palin’s use of the word Maverick is overused in the wrong way to me. A Maverick is one who without permission takes things/issues into their own hands and lucks out becasue it turned out right.

maverick maverick, maverick, sarah and john, mavericks? No, media mongers, jokers, bullies, yes, yes, yes! why don’t they get to the reall issues, we don’t care if you can see alaska from your back yard, yes we’re sorry mccain was a POW, but we must remember he wasn’t the only one there. mccain is so arrogant or “scared”? he can’t even look at his opponent when debating, sarah is so flighty she thinks a couple of winks at the camera is going to win her the election. come on people wake up! we need the truth even if it hurts, get to the point and let us see the real leaders. stop thinking all the backstabbing is going to get you into the oval office. give us something to make us believe in you and vote for you.

Maverick: 1. Being Bi-Racial and running for President of the USA 2. Having two children in wedlock. 3. Being married once. 4. Rewarding work with tax cuts for the middle class. 5. Voting with someone 90% of the time, and saying your a maverick. 6. Indescriminently picking a VP running mate with qualifications including both breasts and a vagina. 7. Supporting a socialist agenda for the rich with a 700 billion dollar reward for irresponsible and negligent loss of Americans money. 8. Giving financial incentive tax breaks to Corporate America that outsources American jobs. 9. Having no use for science or the scientific method. 10. Having a once witch doctor pastor who is your current spiritual advisor, and having a loyal unwavering following to support you to the VP of the USA.

Conclusion: We are all a melting pot of mavericks.
