Questions For The Brothers

If I tried to answer every question in depth you would be looking at a seriously long post. To avoid that I will just pick a couple of questions.

How did I know she was the one? There is no clear cut answer. I knew she was ‘wife material’ at least for me. She had three important characteristics.

First, she has a nurturing spirit. I believe that is of supreme importance. Daily life in America has a way of beating a black man up sometimes. Having a woman who is truly nurturing is like having a doctor who helps you heal faster.

The second characteristic was she had not allowed some man from the past to break her emotionally. Basically, her heart was still strong. That is important because many men are actually having arguments with their women not because of what they did, but because of what the wife’s father or ex did. It is almost like there is three people in your house. You, your wife, and her father’s deeds from the past. It is not that she did not have issues with her father. She definitely did. It is just that she forgave him and moved on a long time ago. She is not held prisoner by those things. As a result, neither am I.

The third characteristic (which may seem chauvinistic) is baby girl can cook! I mean seriously. Even though she was born and raised in Cali, her mom is a Georgia peach. Moms taught her how to get around a kitchen. She is a working woman, and we do share the culinary duties. But when she wants to, she can throw down!

I’ll stop there. This is already getting too long. I will answer some of the other questions in a later post.

1) She was top wife material, good looking, and a moral person. I met her at a church convention so I knew that we shared a lot. after a number of years in the international airline industry, she made the transition to being a stay at home mother seamlessly, she really enjoys being a homemaker. We had our first child one year after getting married, and she has always been great with our three children.

2) When my first child was born I literally took off time to spend the day playing on the floor with her, reading to her, and taking her on long (slow) walks. I loved every second being with them and we have always kept them with us as much as possible. When I run to the store, or go on any errand, I usually take one of them with me.

3) My mother spent 14 years at university, speaks five languages, and is a hard core academic. My wife tires of deep intellectual discussions, easliy. That is the only thing that is less than 100% wiht her , but a small compromise really. She is nothing like my mother. She is much more like my grandmother in temperment and cooking skills (a fantastic cook !).

4) 1 Timothy :1 to 14 pretty much sums up what I am aiming for as a father and husband.

I’m definitely going to have to have Mr. Restaurant Manager take a look at this one. I suspect I know most of the answers (and yes, sista girl CAN cook), but the way he puts it together in words gives me warm fuzzies. LOL
