We HAVE overcome...

The tide has now been redirected...

What an amazing night. Be sure to check out the post on world reaction. It's amazing to see someone have such a large reaction on a global scale. I wonder if that has ever happened before? I'll drop something longer later on this.
Congratulations to the world. Now the world can be friends again with America. Read this letter I wrote in 1998 to TIME magazine. I knew that some good will come out of this bombing one day. 10 years later, the US government is also part of the Kenya government!

Kemi in Canadas last blog post..OBAMA IS AMERICA'S FIRST BLACK/44TH PRESIDENT.
Even though, I thought it was possible, I didn't believe 1 year ago this would be the outcome. Change has definitely come to America.

This is a poem that was written by my 11 year old daughter in response to this historic event. He is truly an inspiration.
As long as I live I will never forget where I was and what I was doing when word came down that Barak Obama was elected president of the United States of America.
My father, who was born in raised in Birmingham, told me what it was like the see and hear Dr. King. When my little son and daugther are older I will make sure they know about this day and President Barak Obama.
I am still in awe of what has taken place. Between tears and smiles, I wish my grandmother (a civil rights leader and the first black woman voted to city council) had lived just a few more months to share this moment in history with us.
No limitations, no excuses...we can do or be anything that we want to be in this nation! Although my children are celebrating with us, one day I hope that they will understand the depth of what has taken place.
Now we must pray for President Obama and his family daily. What a great time to be alive in the United States of America.
Barack Obama is the president elect! My husband and I drank way too much champagne and then went to an old bottle of wine; my daughter tibbled on sparkling cider. We danced, we hugged, we sobbed, we danced and we drank some more.
I went out on our balcony and screamed, "AWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Obama! Obama!"
My daughter went out on our balcony and screamed, "AWHOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm cold!"
Our living room looks like a wrecking scene, but Lamour is taking off today and I'll let him handle that problem. As for me, at the dawn of a new day, a new era, and a new hope; I'm still sobbing because of pride and elation of being black, an African American woman, and with more pride for our country pulling together for unity's sake.

@ Crafty Mama Traci,
I visited your site. I like what I saw. I read your comment about what you did watching the election results with your family. I want to be invited to your house on Januray 20th when Our next President is inaugrated. LOL. Last night for me was like a Super Bowl, New Years Eve party celebration all rolled up in one great evening.(Our Team Won). Hubby and I went to bed with extra smiles on our faces(we don't go to bed mad, tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone.) and our stomaches full. We don't have to imagine "Our Next First Family' in "The White House" it is surreal but so sweet. I Heart Our Next President and The First Family". I cried last night. I thought I was done crying until President elect Obama spoke his acceptance speech and it also melted my heart when Our next president said that his daughters can get the puppy and take it to "The White House". Insert: smiles, cheers and more tears.
I have always told my hubby that there is only room for one "B" in our house and that is me. I am now "The First Lady" Of Our Home, he has always been "The King Of The Castle". Everyone knows that the woman is the "backbone", no matter how we may perceive ourselves. Woman do rock and Barak (as someone posted on "Why I love My Spouse") " puts the awe in awesome". I am so pleased that in numbers and in different shades of hue that we "Baraked" the vote. Our new First Lady must feel so proud. She and her husband were so confident and sure that they never let us see them sweat. LOL. Talk about calm, cool and collective. A man of color sure does the body/soul/spirit good. What is the saying" Once you go/vote black you never go back".
MissJay, we're still crying!
Anna, I bet you'd like to go back now...
I better stop, there are just too many one-liners available to use here.
At least you can still cling to the Hope that was promised. Talk about racism, not one of you mentioned the content of Barack's character, only the fact that his skin is black. Change has certainly not come...Dr. King (a Republican, BTW) would not be proud at all.
