On Monday Disney unveiled the highly anticipated “The Princess And The Frog” toy line. If you’ll remember there were a few hiccups early on in the movies production but Disney has attempted to iron out any wrinkles and has pressed on.

Tony Award-winning actress/singer Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Princess Tiana, unveiled the line which includes dolls, play sets and role-play dresses at a sneak preview event at the American International Toy Fair in New York City

You can view the trailer for the upcoming film below.

BMWK are you picking up one of these dolls for your daughter? Are you going to see the film?

Why did the firefly have to be missing teeth? LOL

Looks intriguing. I’ll probably check it out.

My thoughts exactly Harriet! I was fine until that blasted snaggle toothed bug showed up on the scene…lol.

I am intrigued though, and will be taking my baby girl to see it as well as buy her a doll.

I have been waiting for a pretty black princess to buy! I hope they have all the accessories like they do snow white, ariel, etc…I will be buying everything for all the little girls I know! I think it is really great…as you can tell lol…heck I may buy some toys for myself (I mean my future daughters) :-)

Dag, I have to admit – as much as I criticize Disney and their marketing blitz strategies taking over our children’s lives, I was excited to see the picture of the doll. I can’t help but wonder how my own youth as a little black girl with white barbies, etc. might have been different if I had a film and a little doll like this? I’m actually looking forward to the film. I know it won’t be *perfect* but nonetheless…it’s not another Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella clone…

I have never had a black doll or barbie.(but I buy them for the little white girl across the street). I am going to buy “The Princess Barbie” for myself. I am not sure if I will go to the show to see the movie but it will be added to my DVD collection. Now I guess it’s up to us to let Disney know that it’s ok to make or remake movies that look like us they just need to do more research and hire more black ppl. LOL.

This is huge. Somehow the symbolism and the corporate nature of toys are overshadowed by this black doll (imho besides… could have been someone from the inside pushing for it or the Obama craze). A step forward. :-)

Most definitely will – the toy and the movie for my little one. But what was up with that firefly (or as those of us with some southern/Mississippi blood in us like to say, “lightnin’ bugs”)?

I’m so happy that Disney finally brought out a black princess. So now our girls can have a fairytale princess to look up to and wish upon a star with. I just hope she’ll be a part of Disney’s already current princess collection of merchandise.

Tiana looks like a black version of Belle to me.

Since I have a boy – I’ll definitely add this to the list of gifts to buy for the young girls in my life. Anna – I had to giggle at your comments coz I buy black books and toys for the kids of my white friends, too. They gotta count on their play auntie to school ‘em on black culture. We’re headed to Disney this summer it would be cool if the black princess is out and about in the park.

um…it’s just a movie and it’s just a doll!!! GREAT movie but political implications? i’ve seen plenty of black barbies and my daughter has a few. no big deal!…and…the firefly is missing teeth ’cause he’s from the bayou in, what? the 40’s? how many people (white or black) from back in the day in the bayou do you know that went to the dentist? no political implications here either. just a fun character in a movie!
