When I saw this I could not believe it. Did she not think of her own health or the health of her daugher? This took place in September but I wonder if she did do it for publicity because she did not think to express her milk and the child she breast fed was "a healthy baby".
I would have done the exact same thing. Any mother who has ever seen what the nutrients in breast milk can do for a baby, and who has milk in her breast would be compelled to do the same. Breastfeeding brings out all the maternal instincts, and I know it would feel unbelievable to give something so simple and pure to a needy baby. I admire Selma Hayek for this selfless act. Especially since her baby was a year old at the time, and not totally reliant on her milk. I breastfed my baby until he was 16 months, but he was also eating food by 5 months. So her baby didn't lose anything. Wonderful story!
I would be concerned about AIDS. It is nearing or already at epidemic proportions in Africa.
I HOPE this is not a publicity stunt on her part.
Salma, even before she got pregnant, was a low-key individual.
So, I think she was overwhelmed with maternal instincts and fed a hungry child that needed to eat. Simple.
As someone who grew up in Sierra Leone where 1 in 5 kids don't live past their 5th birthday; where the child mortality rate is the highest in the world, and where it truly takes a village to raise a child, I applaud Salma. She did what any humanitarian would do.

Sorry but to each his own on this topic...guess I would have to be a mother to understand...but I'm sure she could have found another way to feed that baby besides "saving the day" on camera. I will give her an applause if I read she is supplying that baby with food for the next 18 yrs :-) I guess I am a little over celebs and their highly publicized good deeds in Africa these days...especially when the cameras are rolling....

A mothers instinct is to feed a child. While rasing my kids I can't remember how many meals I shared from my own plate. This is a different story, our breasts are used for feeding and for pleasure and maybe her billionaire ex finance' did not get a choice in her decision. It is our body and we can do what we want with it. I just wish she chose to express it than to attach another child to it. Woman ship expressed breast milk all around the world. You do not have to physically breastfeed someones child. To me to breast feed is intimate and a bonding process and maybe because I live in America I do have a problem with another woman breastfeeding my child or any child and I find it strange. Breast milk is in demand as much as sperm is to procreate. Is it right or wrong, was a mother so greatful that a celeb breastfed her child? Maybe I am the Krazy one in not willing to allow another woman to breast feed my child just as I am and will not allow another woman to cook a meal for my husband. I do realize that she was in Africa and the mother of the baby had dried up on her breast supply of milk, but to me it still does not make it right. Health wise for her or being on camera doing it does not merit brownie points to me. Just my thought and I endorse my opinion. Can ppl support and fund my opinion? LOL.
Selma rocks! I'm a breastfeeding mother and I would have done the same thing. There is such a great need for breastmilk that milk banks exist! I was overwhelmed when I heard about this on the news, and I spoke about it for days.
