Alright it’s about that time. We’ve all supposedly been on the 30 day challenge for over a week. Click here for original story. Well…. we need an update an how everyone is doing.
What is the last thing you did and when was it?
Is your spouse participating?
What was the best thing that was done for you?

I fell off for a few days but last night after a long night of work I broke out a message for the wife.

My week long journey thus far has been extrememly frustrating. In just a short week I have learned that it is easy to focus on what you dislike about your spouse rather than what you like about your spouse. I just have to get in the mind set of focusing on what I like—which has been extremely challenging to do and I will be honest, I have not yet done so. Maybe I’ll have some better news to report next week!
*humming and rocking back and forth*
I’m SO ASHAMED!! Pray for me, y’all! I’ve been stuck on Day 1 of the Love Dare (say something nice or don’t say anything at all) for five days now! I almost made it yesterday, but a button got pushed, and although I didn’t GO OFF, I did call him lazy.
(
But normally in the morning, I’ll fix breakfast for my son and I. I rarely fix anything for my husband because he doesn’t really do breakfast. For some reason, though, I fixed him something to eat as well. (He didn’t eat it, though…I came home from teaching class, and it was still in the microwave, so I had an IHOP dinner last night).
Then, remember what I was saying about him not getting up in the morning, and me not saying anything to him? Well, yesterday morning, as usual, he wanted to sleep. I tried to wake him up once, to no avail. So I did everything I normally do, then I also got our son ready, and woke him up when it was time to drop our son off to school.
Now keep in mind, he can get up at 5:30 am to go to the gym and work out. He’s all bright eyed and bushy tailed then! LOL Boy, it took everything in me not to say anything! I had TEARS in my eyes trying to keep that old nasty attitude in check. But I did it! I refrained from nagging and badgering him.
This morning, he shocked me! He went to his 5:30 am workout, came home ON TIME, did his part by getting our son ready. And then–brace yourselves–HE PICKED HIS CLOTHES UP, PUT THEM AWAY, AND VACUUMED THE FLOOR (what?!?)!!!!!!
I was shocked, amazed, and more than turned on. I know he’s not doing the love dare because I bought the book and hid it. I wanted to do it without any pretense of him having to do anything in return. I just wanted to try it on my own first.
I’m very excited by the change!
@Harriet – LOL at you!
I didn’t want my husband to know that I was doing this challenge. I wanted to see if he could tell the difference and so far that’s a big fat no. LOL. Oh well. I’m trying, I swear I am!

Well I guess I’m blessed, cause my husband is wonderful, so the challenge has be a breeze to me, he works 2nd shift, and doesn’t go to bed until about 1 or so, and he still gets up every morning and takes our daughter to school, so I don’t have to rush in the morning. I make sure I tell him I love him everyday, and we kiss everytime one of us leaves the house, or comes back to the house. I have been extra nice though since the whole challenge started. And I’m not sayin we don’t argue, cause we do, and I do say some crazy tihngs, lol…so my goal is to make it thru the month without saying anyting crazy to him (pray for me) and keep it arguement free…I will need an additional prayer for that too.lol
@TheDad – I really loved that 2 minute massage…it should have been longer … but at least you tried
I need to get on the ball too!!!

i sucked my teeth and rolled my eyes at ms miko. ROFL!
seriously, though, i love the fact that your marriage is so wonderful like that! i pray mine gets there soon. we still have some work to do, though.
ROFL @ the two minute massage! i guess it’s the though that counts!
@ tara,
dang…usually you give an “lol” to something i’ve stated, but now you’ve gone to laughing directly at me! LOL
I have not tried the 30 challenge yet. I guess I need to start with the movie “Fireproof”. I don’t know what it is. Cooking and sex is not apart of the challange, darn. LOL. I wonder if hubby saw this challange. He cleaned the fish tank out without me mentioning it, made his own coffee and washed his own clothes to get ready for this morning (do any count)? What have I done you ask. I watched him clean the fish tank, set the coffee maker for the morning and wash and dry his own clothes. Can I get one point?
Pick it up people we’ll be back for another update next week.
@Anna – we haven’t seen the movie and we’re doing it. Jump right in.
My fiance and I live apart so I am finding this very difficult. I think I am going to stick to no arguing…trying to stick to no arguing that is! *shaking my head* he makes it SO hard….
Well Mrs. Harriet, we have been doing this a long, long time, we’ve been together for 15 yrs and we have our 10 yr anniversary in June, and it’s hasn’t always been this way. it’s been many of time where we needed a 3 to 4 month challenge..lol..
and most of the time it was me who was doing wrong (don’t tell nobody I admitted that), I use to say I married the right man, but my husband may have married the wrong woman (but that’s a whole nother post)…so it took us/me a long time to realize what I had, I can say so many wonderful things about my husband, so that’s why this challenge is fine with me…
So with the challenge…
Yesterday I looked him in his eyes and told him how much I appreciate him, and how he was such a blessing to me, etc..
and last night, (I know sex doesn’t count) we did our thang, boy we did our thang.. so this morning he took our daughter to school, (she’s 5) and I took our son to school (he’s 18) and before I came to work I stopped at the restaurant and picked up breakfast and left it on the table with a note that says….”In the movies and on TV when the sex is good, somebody ususally cooks breakfast, since I didn’t have time to cook, I bought it.” ?
@ Ms. Miko,
*Sigh* That sounds like such a fairy tale! You’re proof positive that happily ever after is possible…we just have to work with it!
As for the challenge, y’all…things are really progressing!
I have to quote Ms. Miko on this one: “and last night, (I know sex doesn’t count) we did our thang, boy we did our thang” I just needed to give her a witness. LOL
But we went for a walk with our son and swung him around a bit. We got subway sandwiches and sat down and talked, reminisced and encouraged one another.
I have to say after reading the postings I am more interested in attempting this new challenge. I saw FIREPROOF and it was so much of my life it was scary. I had to look around several times to see if God was sitting there telling me to pay attention. I bought the book… ok, I bought 3 copies… I am going to send one to my best friends whose husband has decided to sleep in the guest room. Pray for us all everyone and good luck!

I have to see this movie(Fireproof). I think I know how to child proof and food proof my home. I buy things in 3′s. (3 handbags, 3 pairs of shoes or 3 pairs of jeans but I have never bought a book in 3′s. I need to do that. I buy books in 2′s so I can give them to a married couple. I did not think to keep a copy for my own keep sake. I think I collected too many books for huuby to keep his tools dusted to continue to put together a book shelf in every available space we have.
OK, y’all…God is so awesome!
Generally Saturdays are my clean up days…I always wash clothes, and while the loads are going, I clean until I’m tired, or until I just don’t feel like it no mo’–whichever comes first.
Anyway, there are two rooms I don’t ever touch: my husband’s studio and the adjacent bathroom (which is supposed to be a guest bathroom).
So yesterday was a “till i don’t feel like it no mo’” day. I was CHILLIN’ after folding clothes and waiting for the next load to finish. Hubby goes to his 10 am workout and tells me on the way out, “David’s coming by in a couple hours to rehearse.”
I say, “So…you’re going to cut your workout short so you can get home and clean your bathroom, right?”
He says, “Yeah.”
KEWL!
So I’m chillin, and I get the unction of the Holy Ghost (do trust, it was the Lord, because one man, one bathroom, and 30 days no cleaning ain’t NO JOKE) to clean his joint up.
I scrub, mop, scour, wipe, steam, sweep, set off atomic bombs to clean the place out. Hubby comes home 5 MINUTES before dude was about to come to the house, goes to the bathroom to do his cursory clean, and lo and behold, the place is sparkling, with the fresh smell of bleach and blue pine sol filling the air.
And you know what’s so miraculous about this? I DIDN’T HAVE AN ATTITUDE! I actually enjoyed cleaning it because I wanted him to be surprised when he got home.
He kissed me ever so softly and said, “Baby, you’re the greatest.”
It was worth a million bucks.
AAwww thanks for sharing Harriet
I have to admit, I do get a huge sense of pride when I do things for the boo…especially when I’m doing it from the heart!
