Get Fit With BMWK and the 50 Million Pound Challenge

Lamar and I have been asked to join the 50 Million Pound challenge.  We are excited about that because we have both talked about doing more exercise and eating healthier for this year in the long run and in the short run we are taking a cruise towards the end of the summer and we both agree that we want to be in top shape when we go to the pools and the beautiful island beaches.  However, we both have different motivations for wanting to get in shape:

Her View: My youngest child is now 14 months old…so I can no longer run around claiming that this is my baby weight. That’s getting a little played.  Besides that, I am utterly ashamed of my gut. I don’t think that I am at a bad weight. but I definitely need to tone up.  Besides looking good, my other motivation is feeling good.  Last summer, I started walking two miles. That walk eventually turned into a slow jog and now I eventually got up to a 3 mile jog.  I noticed  that I had so much energy when I was exercising.  Unfortunately a busy work schedule kept me from exercising the last few months.  As a result, I have put on a few pounds and I don’t have as much energy.  And with 4 kids, I need all of the energy that I can get!!!.

My goal is to lose 14 pounds before my cruise.  I started the 50 Million pound challenge last week and I already lost 2 pounds.

His View: Like Ronnie said we have different motivations. My motivation is to break the maritime law by taking heavy artillery into international waters. Putting on a high powered gun show in the Caribbean with Hulk Hogan like 22 inch pythons during cruise time… yeah right. lol. On the serious note I’m not looking to lose much weight but what I am trying to do is live a healthier more active lifestyle to make sure I’m around long enough to pay for my girls marriages and to make sure Ronnie doesn’t become a widow and have some dude living in my house walking around like Ving Rhames in BabyBoy :-) . I’ve also noticed that in recent pictures that we’ve been taken my T-Shirts are loose at the top and loose at the bottom but snug in the stomach region.. Do any of the fellas know what I’m talking about?

When I joined the 50 Million Pound Challenge site over the weekend I liked that you have the ability to track your physical activity. The site recommends 60 minutes of physical activity a day and this will be a good start for me.  When I was younger I used to shoot basketball everyday. Now walking around the building at work is pretty much the extent of my daily work out and I can tell I’m out of shape every time I hit a long flight of steps ( I could also tell when my 16 y/o nephew smoked me in B-Ball last fall…SMH). With the site I’ll be able to login to track my progress and take a look at the healthy meal plans as I cut down on the grease and soul food.

How do we plan on getting into shape?  I plan to exercise for starters.  I plan to take a 3 mile jog every day that I can ( no less that 4 times a week.)  I also plan to do plenty of sit-ups.  Which means dusting off my Ab lounge Max that’s been in the basement for a year.  I brought it upstairs this morning. Lamar will do some jogging and hit the weights and sit-ups of course.

Lamar and I also want to start eating healthier like he mentioned above.  We are going to start by incorporating more servings of fruits and vegetables into our diets and by drinking more water.  The 50 Million pound challenge has shopping lists and daily meal plans that are making this easy.  I told Lamar the other day that I could not possibly eat all of the food that was listed on the daily meal plan.  But I tried it and I was full all day.  I had no urges to eat junk food and I felt good because I know that I ate healthy all day.

I created a group on the 50 Million Pound Challenge page called BlackandMarriedwithKids. I would like to invite all of the BMWK readers and Family members to join this group and take part of the challenge along with us. We’ll be updating you on our status on a weekly basis  for the next few months starting next Wednesday and we’ll ask you how you are doing also :-)

BMWK Family – Please let us know if you plan on joing the 50 Million Pound Challenge.  What’s your motivation for joining: living healthier, losing weight, new years resolution, a special pair of skinny jeans, an upcoming vacation….

I’m in…I’m with Ronnie. I just need more energy, plus working out is a mind regulator and an attitude checker for me. The Lord really kills negativity within me while I’m working out. If I leave it on the track or at the gym, I won’t take it home. My schedule just hasn’t allowed for it lately, but I’m going to have to carve out the time. My marriage depends on it. LOL (but not really).

I’m in as well! I joined a while ago but I haven’t been keeping up that well. I also joined Weight Watchers and have been doing pretty good with that. I’ll be sure to join your group!

I joined 50 Million Pounds back in October of 2007…then I got pregnant with my son in November 2007 and promptly forgot all about that!

My big thing is portion control, lack of exercise and this massive sweet tooth that developed during my last pregnancy. Like Ronnie said, my baby is almost walking now so I need to quit claiming this extra weight! My belly has got to go!

I might just start taking walks around the block since we finally have a neighborhood we can walk in and my daughter is obsessed with being outdoors (which is a great thing). I look forward to reading your updates!

“My big thing is portion control”

Mine too Tara! Weight Watchers is helping me with that. But since today is my birthday I have to indulge a little.

I’m curious to know how the 50 million meal plan has worked for you?

I too have children, a 20 month old and a 10 month old (Eeek!) I also started working full-time 3 months ago.
I wore size 2 throught both pregnancies and gained the weight AFTER the last one! And it’s NOT cute! Only want to lost 10 – 15 lbs but on 5’3″ frame it looks like a lot.

I have been on the meal plan for 7 days now. A co worker has been on for 3 weeks and loast 17lbs! In her first week she lost 9 lbs. Me? 2 lbs. And I am working out on my Wii Fit 4x a week.

I also an very full on this diet and never crave junk which is a miracle! Do you know how this diet is supposed to work when we eat all day??
