The Connection

I had a few random moments just now that I had to write about.  There is no rhyme or reason to this thought process, but I just wanted to share what was going through my mind.

Isaiah 65:8 says that the juice of the grape is found in the cluster.  One single grape can only wet the thirst of a parched soul for so long.  The possibilities of surviving in our current economy are relatively high on an individual basis. If we employ  wisdom and make necessary adjustments, then things will go well for us.

Nevertheless, there is also a large opportunity–even in harsh times–to THRIVE emotionally, economically, spiritually and relationally.  However, that is only possible on a collective basis.  We must connect with one another in order for the sweet nectar of our community to flow again!

Don’t be afraid to be transparent with one another.  You never know…the very issue you survived could be the issue another person is currently going through.  That’s not to say we should give unsolicited advice, but if questions are asked, it is incumbent upon us to give the WHOLE truth, not just the parts that make us look good to another.  How is that going to help them overcome?

Don’t be hesitant to ask for wisdom.  There is an ebb and flow among humanity that has the potential to be so beautiful!  Now, more than ever, it is much easier to find those who have the knowledge and wisdom hoarding it from those who really need it.  Individuals have become so used to that mindset that they don’t even bother asking questions anymore.  As a nation, we cannot afford to re-invent the wheel.  Let’s talk to one another and be willing to ask questions (even if we think they are stupid).

It’s definitely time to end this envious crab mentality that refuses to celebrate when witnessing the success or accomplishment of another. Jill Scott should not have had to waste her immense talent on writing a song about hating when her gift could be used for so much more.  If we see a brother or sister or family walking into their breakthrough or working their way out of debt, we need to learn how to cheer one another on! For example, Tara and her family just purchased a house!  Praise the Lord!  Plus, she was featured in the Essence (or was it Ebony?) magazine with Michelle Obama on the cover!!!  Talk about literal global exposure!  My heart sings for her and the blessings she received through hard work and being positioned to succeed!

During these difficult times, it’s so easy to dwell on what we don’t have.  But collectively, I would like to present the challenge to adopt an attitude of gratitude.

I’m grateful for Ronnie and Lamar giving me the opportunity to write for their blog!  It’s an honor and privilege I don’t take lightly!

I’m thankful for the presence of a young, gifted, powerful father and husband on this blog.  E. Payne has brought the FIRE, and gleaning in the field of his honesty has helped me improve my marriage.

Tara…what can I say? I feel like I’m watching a sitcom when I read about your adventures in motherhood and marriage.  It’s refreshing and insightful, and I thank you for being you!

From Gwen to Garrett, Political Pete to Mocha Dad, Anna to Anonymous, I hold out my fist to give you a pound of love.  I’m thankful for the BMWK family as a whole, from relationships to traveling tips.  I thank God that there is a community out there that exemplifies the sweetness of the cluster of grapes.  I’m especially thankful that God loved me enough to connect me to such an awesome bunch. This connection is second to none!

What are you grateful for, BMWK?  How can you get beyond yourself to connecting with someone else?  Is there a cause you can support that’s bigger than you? I want to challenge you to get in where you fit in and ride the wave of respect and opportunity!  You’ll be amazed at the possibilities!

God bless!

Great article Harriet. In this day and time, it is easy to see and focus on what isn’t going right for us, it is harder to focus on what we are grateful for. I have been reminded that even though I am in the career I want to be in, my job is not my dream job….it is a stepping stone to something bigger. I am grateful for my job and the flexibility that I have. I am most grateful for my boss. She is great!

We are all connected more than we realize. We may not have met each other in person but just like GOD, we don’t see him but we know his connection and feel his presence. Great post.

    @ momof3,

Thank God for stepping stones and good bosses! They make the process we’re in as a nation much easier to bear. It’s going to all be worth it in the end.

    @ tara,

No, we haven’t met, but you’ve enabled me on FB. ROFL. You can “steal” my quotables any time, sweetie! Puff, puff, give! LOL. Seriously, though, your personality is so tangible through what you weave together on the screen. Keep it up, and do it BIG! Why not? ;o)

    @ anna,

You’re so right…we’re like a cool summer breeze!

    @ Miko,

If you received inspiration that you needed, don’t look upon this person who is lowly, because *singing* it’s the God in me. LOL I’m always blessed to hear that what I’ve written has fulfilled its original duty to encourage and uplift…whether it was for one or a thousand.
