Hmmm. Isn’t a “baby daddy” someone who you had a child with but no longer see romantically and you have no relationship outside of the child? If you are still with the person you had a child with, isn’t that person then your “boyfriend/girlfriend”? Semantics, I guess.

Either way, we gotta do SOMETHING about the number of black kids that don’t have both mommy and daddy in the picture. 70% is not acceptable…

@Tara- in some circles of Academia the term “baby daddy” is used to also simply denote a father who is not married to the mother but an alternate definition is the one you’ve provided as well.

The term “baby daddy” is a derivative of the Latin term babius daddius found in ancient roman literature.

    yeah whateva…lol

As much as I don’t like the term, I understand the concept. I am good enough to sleep with but not good enough to marry will always be a womens thinking. Am I mean spirited in thinking that because my son got a girl pregnant that I want a “shot gun wedding before the baby is born? LOL.

I’m glad to see that people are actually getting married and will be providing a more stable environment for their children to grow up in. But I am completely opposed to the notion that you have to have a wedding to get married. I read an article about the rise in the number of children being born out-of-wedlock, especially black children, 70% as Tara stated. But the article also included a quote from a black single mother about not wanting to get married because she and her Babydaddy could not afford a wedding and would rather put that kind of money toward a down payment on a house. I applaued the logical thinking of making a good investment with your money, but how and why does that stop you from getting married? I can not imagine there is a city in this country that charges more than $150 for a marriage licence and only a $100 more (or less) for the services of a Justice of the Peace. People need to stop watching so much WE and Oxygen (aka the wedding channels) and understand that being married is about so much more than a wedding. Speaking of which with all of the dress designers and cake makers on board for this occaision, is there any pre-marital counseling thrown in for the lucky couples?
