Lamar…since you and I can’t win this…perhaps my Dad..ok..I know that is probably not allowed either.

But he is a special dad that is in my life and his lawn mower is broken. I would love for him to have this gift card to use towards buying him a new lawer mower that is self propelled (or whatever you call it….to make his lawn mowing a little less labor intensive!!!

The special dad in my life is my Hubby. He’s inherited a love of woodworking from his dad (who is pretty special himself). He would use the gift card to purchase wood to make kitchen cabinets. With his folks in another country and his dad 92 years old, I think Hubby, fearing that his own father is not too long for this world, feels a special connection/bond with him. Sure I get crabby that he spend so much time in the man-cave hovering around that darn table saw…but then I realize that his hobby is all about love and making things not for himself…but for the family. That makes him pretty special in our eyes!

My husband is a great (step)father. Even though he is not my daughter’s biological dad he has made that transition very smooth for not just me, but for her as well. She beams at the sight of him showing up for her spelling bees, or her honor society. I am blessed and so fortunate to find a man that will take on a responsibility of another man and with a smile on his face. When he asked to marry me, he asked for my daughter too, and that was enough for me. He would use this card to buy things for our house. This is his project to keep his family protected as much as he can. He is a great inspiration to all men…he is a man with integrity and heart. He is a protector, giver, and doer. I love him for that!!!

What I remember about my dad were the long summer days where he would take me to the garden and teach me how to plant. We would start by ctting rows into the plot and then he would let me distribute the seeds among the rows. Everyday after work when he came home, we would go out into the garden and water. Once the plants start coming up he would give me little insights into which plants were great to have and which yielded more. He would also tell me stories of when he was little and did te same thing with his dad. When the veggies finally came up we were so excited. Now I am older and finally have my own garden and I still remember his tricks and tips. And then I also realized that those little stories he told me or tips he gave me have helped me in my life.

Nice memories to read of ones dad or a stepdad/husband. I identify with all. @ the mom it’s my annivesary today and we both had to work but hubby had to go over his parents house because his dad’s lawn mower broke while he was cutting grass. If anybody is going to take away from me celebrating my annivesary with my husband I am glad that it was my father-in -law. (we can celebrate tomorrow and I will drag hubby to see “hang over”.) That movie looks funny.
@ Carolyn G. Your memories made me think of the Bible and the foundaiton of family/marriage. You do have to plant the seed and cultivate it. You remember how precious a gift your father gave you.
It is so simple but yet so nurishing and memorable. I love Home Depot as much as my hubby. When I go to Home Depot with or without hubby I feel like a kid in a candy store. I do not to want to be considered for the gift card but want to give a shout out to my dad ” Hey dad” Thanks for all you do. I love you man!

My younger brother is a special Dad. He often reflects on the great example we had from our own Daddy. While we have been without the earthly presence of Daddy since 2003, we learned from him how to do things with our hands and our hearts. I now see my brother pass this trait along to his two children. I believe my brother will use the card toward buying a door to better secure the house for his family, especially since he now has to travel out of town for work. He puts others first and spends his money thoughtfully because his wife was displaced from her job and they have rising high school senior son and a daughter who is in college. So, I know, like other deserving nominees, my brother could benefit from the blessings of this gift card. Thanks for the opportunity to reflect on special Dads. Happy Father’s Day to Fathers, sons and daughters.

My dad is deserving of this gift because he has consistently found (legal) ways to provide for me throughout my life – even when he only had $2 to his name and received his first paycheck from the Army of $1.25 as he told me. No job was off limits – and because of his perseverance and dedication, he learned so many new skills including painting, fixing appliances, building decks, etc. In his retirement, he now stays busy helping others fix items that they couldn’t re-purchase otherwise due primarily to financial challenges in our economy…but also because he was meant to help us all become more green.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad! Happy Father’s Day to all men who embrace the joys of being a dad.

I don’t know exactly where to begin when talking about someone as special as my father. My father is an all around team player and family man. He exemplifies what a man should be to his children, wife family and friends. Let me start by saying pride has never been an issue with my dad. Growing up my father never took the back seat, gender roles was never a spoken issue in my household. My father takes on all responsibilities with ease he cooks, cleans, washes, yardwork, schoolwork, mentor and most of all loves unconditionally. He is truelly The Man. Not only does he do all of these things with ease most importantly he does them without complaint. My dad started, but never completed college, when my mother got news she was pregnant with my older brother. He immediatly put is education aside and joined the Militiary to provide for his family. I know this unfinished task at times bothers him, because he never leaves a project incomplete. Sacrifices like these define the true meaning of a father.
If anyone knows my dad they know just how much he takes pride in his yard and home. He is always mowing and perfecting the outside and inside of his castle. this is one certificate that will definitely be put to use. I nominate my father Anthony Harris, because he deserves it!

The special Dad in my life is my fiancé, Karl. This will be his first “official” Father’s Day!

He’s has exercised a very special and important role in my daughter Aysia’s life. He encourages her to own the passion to win in everything that she sets to accomplish while showing her love, guidance and wisdom. Karl supports Aysia at her soccer games, school functions, church, hobbies and the everyday teenage dilemmas.

Since the birth of our daughter Karli, I’ve witnessed a softer side of him. He’s more gentle, patient, and understanding. Karl thinks of his family first.

Karl has been working on organizing his home office for a while. We believe he deserves to win and would appreciate the Home Depot $100 gift card as it would help to complete his special project.

This is a poem written by my sister, Moneice from Karli to her Poppy:

    Poppy’s Journey

This is new to you as and I
But with God’s help we will do just fine.
I know that you will always be there
Because you shelter me with your love and care.
Being a Poppy will be the hardest job,
    But the most rewarding one.
Through all of the stages we will both learn as well as have fun!

Your time, soul, heart and love you will invest
Just know Poppy that you are doing your best.
You look at me with joyous anticipation
I look at you with admired affection.

When you sing “Angel” in my ear
You hold me close and calm my fears.
This journey that we’re traveling may be a little freighting
Poppy, I’m so glad to have you right beside me

I can’t wait until you pass down to me
Your knowledge, strength and your wisdom.
I’ll do my best to show strength, wisdom and be God’s good listener,
    Karli Sophia Simone.

    Happy 1st Father’s Day!
    With all of my love
    Your Angel XOXO

My father would most definitely use the gift card to buy paint supplies so that he can do some painting in the house that my grandfather left him, which will now be his retirement home.

    Hi,

My dad would love that home depot card! He stays on the internet every afternoon looking at lawn mowers and all types of lawn equipment because his dream is to start his own professional lawn service. So I definately know that would go to good use. My dad is a special guy because although he gets on my nerves alot, he is always very thoughful and extremely sacraficial of his self to provide for his children, and I will always appreciate him for that. He has really enstilled in me the value of hard work.

My dad is not one to show emotions, so I never felt like a “daddy’s girl” growing up like some of my friends. But I remember the time when I won a poster-drawing contest sponsored by the Kiwanis or some other service group and he took me to the dinner they had in my honor. I remember how much he smiled when they gave me the award, and I have the newspaper clipping to prove it! It made me realize how much he really did care about me, even though he didn’t show it much.

Our family is blessed to have a phenomenal dad– my husband Mike. He is an amazing father to our three kids, Caitlyn(12), Andrew(4) and Brian(2). What makes Mike a great dad is his commitment to his family. After 10 years on the road as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters, he retired to be home with the kids. He has started his own company offering youth basketball instruction, camps, clinics and after school programs. Because many of his programs are in the afternoon, it has allowed him to be a stay-at-home dad to our youngest son, Brian. It is amazing seeing him schedule Brian’s morning with activities (reserving nap time to get much of his own work done.) Because I work full time, he shoulders many of the household responsibilities, and that’s why he could really use the gift card. As you might imagine, having two small kids can take a toll on a house! They have lost many of Mike’s tools, broken furniture by climbing on it, pulled doorstops off walls, colored on walls, and destroyed a closet door while playing hide and seek. My husband could use a little help. With the gift card, we’d invest in fresh paint, a new closet door, a few new tools, some door stoppers and some wood glue. But it won’t be Mike doing the work. To thank him for being OUR world’s best dad, I will head up the repairs so he can relax for a change!

I know this is a Fathers Day gift card give away, but don’t rule out mothers who have to be fathers because some men don’t man up. My sis is a single mother who two years ago purchased her first home for her and her boys. My sis is in nursing school and will graduate a day after our dads 75th birthday.(June 26th). Our father lives in a retirement community and if this were a gift card for tire rotaion or a free oil change I would want our daddy to win. My sis has a beautiful home but could use this card to update her kitchen floor with new tile or it could help to purchase a new lawn mower. Our brother spent this weekend cutting her grass with his lawn equipment.
@ Lamar and Ronnie, there should have been a “tissue alert” warning on this post”. I loved reading all the comments.

    Hi
My dad is not one to show his emotions, yet he has always made me feel like “daddy’s little girl”. Throughout my years of growing up he has always been there supporting my efforts with a smile and hug. Although he has never been much into gardening, he recently began to support the Rosedale Park Baptist community garden. The church he attends is attempting to unify the surrounding neighbors of Brightmoor
through this community garden. However, with the economy being such that it is there are few funds available to get this garden started properly. I am sure that my father would donate this gift card to the church, in order to get things rolling. That’s just the type of dad he has always been.
