So far I have been trying to make the transition to being green by purchasing and replacing all my products, especially cleaning products with more natural items. I am planting more flowers, and I plan on growing my own fruits, vegetables and herbs for seasonings. That would save money on buying foods that are in plastics and which will cut back on having to purchase things in wasted containers. I also have bought a few reusable shopping bags. We've gone green by cutting our use of paper towels - entirely. Strictly cloth for us. We're also moving into a partially "locavore" existence by patronizing the local CSA & Farmer's Markets. :) Katy Lins last blog post..~ My Husband Rocks! ~ in the rain!

We bought a set of canvas bags for our groceries and we reuse the paper ones as well. We're also talking about starting a compost bin (I think the boys just want an excuse to have worms in the house :-)

We got green in quite a few ways. We recycle and are teaching the kids to also understand how that works. We take our own bags to shop and do not bring back paper or plastic. We take our own travel mugs to Starbucks and refuse paper cups and only get organic coffee. We use eco-friendly cleaning products in the house. We have a long way to go but are off to a good start I think.

My family and I have gone green in many ways. - It's HOT, HOT, HOT in Louisiana right now, but we ensure the AC is two degrees more than what it normally is so we can ease the effects it has on the environment - We don't have a car (umm...that's not an entirely purposeful choice, but it is what it is LOL) - Instead of calling people to take me to the store, I don my hummer backpack with freezer and canvas bags in tow, and I hoof it two miles to the grocery store to get dinner for the next couple of nights. Then I hoof it back. GREAT exercise, too! - I've gotten in the habit of washing all my clothes in cold water - If I have to get the plastic store bags, I don't throw them away, but I reuse them for trash bags as well. My daughter has gone so green, she rinses out our ketchp bottles, mustard bottles, shampoo bottles, empty hand lotion, pickle jars, news paper, magazines. You name it she drops it off to be recycled. I am the one who started this many years ago but she took it and ran with it. She is a great organizer. She will help clean out closets for a small fee, she will let you know that if it's in the back of the closet you were not wearing it anyway. She collets clothes to take to the Salvation Army almost on a monthly basis. I can say that I did make a monster out of her because when she cleans out her closet a few times a year she just gets a new wardrobe on moms dime. My hubby tilled one of my flower beds Wednesday and in the back yard we plan on having a vegetable garden. Our state is one who are now using wind mills for enegry. Everyone wants to go green and we can do it little by little. Last time I checked "pennies around the house add up to dollars", helping to keep our enviroment green takes all of us to do something so simple that will not necessarily be another chore. Most of us have access to buy bags that can be recycled or resued. If you only have a few items while at the store opt to carry it out without a bag, or take your own even if it does not have the logo of the store you are in. @ Harriet, I too use the grocery store bags to line the bath/bedroom garbage pails.
