Of course you know that a memorial service was held in Los Angeles for pop star Michael Jackson yesterday. By now most of you have seen it and probably boo hooed at some point (did you make it till the end and if you did I bet Paris broke you down). What a tribute (BET take notes) to the man. Below I’ve included my favorite moment which was Stevie Wonder singing I Never Knew You’d Leave in Summer.
What was your favorite moment from yesterday’s service? What memories of MJ do you have?

There were so many. One of my favs was when John Mayer(sp?) Played Human Nature. Beautiful performance! Stevie's song by itself makes me cry, the irony of the song and the fact he left us in summer really hit home to me. And yes Paris' words about her Daddy were beautiful and heartfelt and real. I hope everybody will leave the man alone. He's in a much better place with Brandon Jackson living his childhood with no judgement besides the judgement that only God passes on everybody. And I'm sure Michael's life was highly favored by the Lord. Marlon's words were great too. And I just think that everyone there are strong and true perfessionals. I know I could not do it. The entire Jackson family was and will continue to be in my prayers. Who else sang along to Soon and Very Soon or Jesus Is Love?
I was o.k. Till the baby spoke at the end. I cried like a baby. If there was any question that he was not their father, It should be gone. He was their "Daddy" and her losing him was clear in her short words.
The memorial was wonderful. The mix of music and speeches was perfect. Brooke Shields, Berry Gordy and Magic spoke so well of him; Reminded us he was a person first. I know we want to "do something" But I think we should allow his family to deal with his passing.
Side note
BET I stopped watching you because everything you air is aired imho with no pride. Please take notes.
The memorial was truly a tribute from family and friends of Michael Jackson. I'm thankful that the family didn't give what the media expected..."a show." All of the speeches and performances were heartfelt. I shed a tear here and there throughout the memorial. The hardest part for me was at the end. The spotlight was shining so brightly on the microphone...but, there was no Michael. That was when I broke. He brought us so much joy through his music. I will miss the greatest entertainer that ever lived!
I have to agree with Lynn's comments on BET. This memorial put BET to shame. They should be embarassed! It's better to do the best of what you can than the most of the worst you can. Black people really need to unite and demand more of BET, the network that is "supposed" to represent us.
Anyways, I loved the entire MJ memorial. I loved how they incorporated spirituality in the moment and took every opportunity to acknowledge GOD! It was truly a class act from beginning to end. I want my memorial to be like that one day. God bless the Jackson family.

I have to say that Stevie's performance was my favorite as well, but not for "I never knew you'd leave in summer," but for "they wont go when i go." That was the most powerful heartfelt selection that day and I could not help but cry when listening to it. It was better than his album version. Other great moments to recognize were Usher's rendition of Gone too soon and John Mayer's uplifting instrumental. As for Paris, her comment at the end was the realest moment of the day and it in a class all on its own from the other memorial moments.
