The Reality of Foreclosure: Conclusion

by Harriet
Well, BMWK, the end of a thing is always greater than its beginning! I want to thank you for your prayers and support. I really do. The first article I wrote about our home being in foreclosure was heart wrenching. We didn’t know WHAT we were going to do, but we knew we were going too believe and trust God.
First, let me give you a run down of what happened leading up to this point:
- My husband was laid off from his teaching job in May of 08. They didn’t have enough money to cover his job for the next school year.
- Our home was in foreclosure by June of 08. I was the only one working, and I had taken a huge pay cut (I’m being paid less than 50% of what I was making while in the Air Force) from my salary as a military officer.
- We put in for a loan modification in July of 08 and got it at a 6.3% interest rate (the same as it was before) and paying $100 less than what we had been paying. The first $1000 was due in September, and our first home payment was due in December of 08.
- September of 08, my husband became a restaurant manager (yes, y’all…my baby was a manager at McDonald’s, doing what he had to do as a man to keep food on the table).
- December of 08, we paid that first modified mortgage, and I started writing for BMWK…a fire that kept me warm during what arguably was the coldest winter ever for my family and I. You all are a Godsend!
- January of 09 rolled around, and tickets of traffic transgressions past began to rear their ugly heads. From January to May of 09, we must have dished out $2-3000 to keep my husband out of jail. Tickets from 10 years ago came up! It was CRAZY!
- In the meantime, April of 09 came around, and our home was in foreclosure AGAIN. You all got wind of THAT unfortunate incident in “The Reality of Foreclosure.” The same month, I turned in an application for a loan modification.
- May of 09, our names were in the paper, stating our home was going to be sold on June 3rd. On May 29th, our mortgage company contacted the lawyers and told them to hold off on selling our home for 30 days.
- June of 09…waiting game. No information, no phone calls, no love from the mortgage company. BUT, we were getting calls from so-called friends about how they saw our names in the paper and hearing whispers in the night about how plans were being made to purchase our home from under us. Oh…and because our truck broke down and there is no public transportation here, my husband was fired.
So here we are today. July 13, 2009 the sheriff came to our home and told my husband that the sale date was now July 22, 2009. The man that wanted to purchase our home last month came by at the same time asking to do an appraisal. As my husband was telling him that wasn’t going to be possible, the Fed Ex truck came bumbling up the street looking for 2209 Desiree. The delivery man found a gaggle of men outside the address discussing legal issues, and asked for my husband.
My husband signed for the package, and lo and behold, it was the paperwork for our freshly approve LOAN MODIFICATION!!!! Knowing where we were, you won’t believe where we ARE right now:
- Our interest rate dropped from 6.3% to 4.1%!
- Our mortgage payments dropped from $1,100 to o$800!
- We didn’t have to pay anything to secure the loan modification!
- They don’t want us to pay our first NEW mortgage payment until September 09! Did you read that? This means that we will have been in our home for NINE MONTHS without making ONE PAYMENT!
- Mr. Restaurant Manager just learned that he got his teaching job back, so in August he starts work again in the school system!
And through all that drama, all that heartache, all that determination to maintain our marriage, our sanity, our belief in the King of kings and the Lord of lords, we have found that God is STILL good and STILL in the miracle working business! We give Him glory for doing this for us, because He knows we made our fair share of mistakes. Here’s the deal, though: NOTHING is impossible for God! NOTHING.
We have come full circle in this situation, only this time, things are finally turning around in our favor. I can’t thank you all enough for your prayers! They were answered, and we are so grateful! I’d like to know this, BMWK: what kind of impossible situations have you been in that spun way out of control? From sickness to divorce to financial difficulties, how did you see your way through them? If you’re in a situation like that now, how does this article make you feel about your circumstances? We’d love to hear from you!
God bless!
