I agree with the mom in the video. We trust these kids with the teacher. My daughter twirls her hair around her finger absentmindedly also. I can’t believe what some of these teachers think that the can do. And the teacher is getting away with it. If the teacher cut my daughters hair I would be beyond mad. I just hope this doesn’t hurt the little girls trust in adults. If the little girl kept messing with her hair and the teacher was furiated, but the little girl in the corner and make her sit on her hands. No noise and the child gets the point.

This was assault on a child and it was a race hate crime as well. This teacher came at the face of a little child with a pair of scissors and all she got was a slap on the wrist and a, “Well, it’s okay, she was just frustrated”? Had this been a black teacher doing this same identical thing to a white child, the whole nation would want that teacher’s hide nailed to the wall. But since its just assault on a little black baby, oh well its okay, $175 fine, and carry on? Where is Rev. Sharpton? Where is Jesse Jackson!! This is UNACCEPTABLE!! The school board would’ve been sued, the teacher sued, and her job would be no more had that been one of my children!!! Lord, I could not be held accountable for what I might have done to that teacher!!

Teacher or not they should be held accountable. I am currently a student here in Jacksonville, Florida. The best thing that ever happens to me was to leave Edward Waters College. I have learn so much at this college that I am now attending , just the atmosphere alone feels like a college, just to think being at a college paying the kind or money that student paid for at Edward Waters College and not having a choice of teachers. Especially when a there is a teacher who seeks to cause you harm academically because of their dislike for a you as a student and for a student not to have a way out after going to the administrator for help and not receiving any . Policy change each time you think you are graduating I was held back now I am graduating May 8, 2010 and schedule to graduate with my BS in 2011. Now I must say to this mother and father of this child file a charge on this teacher at the State Attorneys office. File a complaint with Department of Children and Family. Don’t stop until you get some action people need to be accountable for their action. When it comes to a child in this scenario its time to stop the foolishness. TBM

Wow! As an educator or 17 years, a cardinal rule is, “Never put your hands on a child.” In our district any teacher who puts their hands on a student to administer punishment is immediately suspended with pay pending an investigation. Depending on whether or not the district/board considers the teacher’s actions abusive, the teacher could be fired and the incident would become a part of that teacher’s permanent record. I have seen teachers in our district fired for a lot less. While, I don’t agree with bad behavior in the classroom, there are hundreds classroom management techniques. I agree with Maji.

The reality of all of all of this is is the teacher is inapropriate. She could have handeled the situation in a more mature mannor. She is supposed to “lead by example”. The example shown is if you get frustrated with a person you can violate thier space to release your tension.

She should be fired from the school or be demoted to an assistant and re-trained on how to deal with children who need attentio, MAKE NOISE or need to be disciplined.

And as far as those who feel the little girl was in the wrong….. you are entitled to your opinion… HOWEVER you must be living in your own world because NOISE is everywhere.

KIDS make NOISE……. Cutting a braid off is not going to keep them quiet. Go figure the girl made more noise by crying after being chastised!!!

I am appalled, disgusted shocked and just plain old pissed that this woman would have the gall to put a pair of scissors to this beautiful young childs hair. I am a employee for a large school district in SLC, and being Black, it is by no means easy to dealing with people that do not know, understand or care about our culture. My first, last and present attititude is to wup this teachers ass and ask for forgiveness later. I have three beautiful girls in the SLC school system and have encountered some stupid antics from teachers and the principals that protect them. The comments that I read about taking back are schools is real and needed. I see it everyday. My daugthers 4th grade teacher (last year) was a prime example. Please keep me inform on the developments of this story as I live in another state.

Great comments, but I am going to go there, is the teacher non black? I am only askng because there are many ppl who have had a bad experience with someone that does not have thier same skin color and grow up thinking that that “whole” race of ppl are bad. Like some ppl just hate police officers.
