From Cincinnati.com:
SPRINGFIELD TWP. – A church day-care center is under investigation and facing a class-action lawsuit after allegations surfaced that workers gave children an over-the-counter drug in candy to make them nap.
At issue is whether workers gave children melatonin, a sleep supplement, to help them sleep during the day-care center’s naptime, according to the chief.
“The investigation has just begun and the Springfield Township Police Department does not know definitively at this time which staff members were involved in providing the dietary supplement to the children and which children were given (it),” the chief wrote. “However, we are providing this information to you at this time so that you can take whatever actions you deem necessary to protect your child or children in the event that they were given Melatonin on one or more occasions.”
This story is crazy. What would make someone think this is OK? What would you do if this were your child’s daycare? Has anything crazy ever happened at your daycare?

If I didn’t sleep during nap time, I just had to lie there and be quiet until it was over. That was most days, but I was never drugged.
If I had a child there, I’d probably look for another place, even if the center had dealt with it. Shows a lack of oversight and a lack of judgment in hiring. I believe in forgiving people, but I wouldn’t want my kids at risk even if I didn’t hold a grudge. (All hypothetical, since I don’t have kids yet.)

This is crazy and in my “Burbs”. I have worked at many daycare centers while my kids were younger(it defeats the purpose of going back to work if all the money goes to daycare)My kids could go for free, but I ended up hiring a at home sitter for them. Day Care Workers are only paid alittle above minimum wage to take care of our most precious gift of all “our kids’. There was this couple who had 3 kids at the day care I worked at. A new born, a 3 year old, and a latch key elememtary kid. We were open from 6am-6pm and those kids were there before I got to work in the morining and still there as I was leaving work in the evening. Being I was not the owner of the center I did not have to stick around and wait for their parents that were always late. The school ager came to day care with a t-shirt on as a dress. The 3 yr. old was learning to be potty trained(he was a big boy) mon-fri he was being potty trained but the parents had him on the weekends and did not continue the hard work that the Center was putting in. The kid was not in my class but we combined two classes to watch a movie. I kept smelling something. It was him, his parents or maybe his teacher put a diaper on him and left it on him. It was so bad, I took the kid and changed him and I was livid, I could not believe that this kid had to sit in his own mess for however long it was, it had to be long because it was not easy to clean him up. I told my now ex about it and he said as long as I was doing a good job and doing the right thing that I should not worry about someone else doing their job. I took it up with the Owner and shortyly after that I quit. I found out shortly after that the center closed down due to many violation. It was such a beautiful building inside and out. We had this wonderful cook who I could tell was always giving a handful of the teachers “the side eye”. LOL.. Too many kids are living in day care and in this particular center (that this post is about) I don’t know anything about the center but to give kids drugs to take a nap is oh so wrong. As Mrs. Micha stated, not all kids are going to go to sleep at nap time. In my classroom I knew which kids were never going to take a nap so I would tell them that you still have to lie on your cot, but I would give them a book to read or have them help me set the table for the afternoon/after nap snack.
Boy, I tell you…folks start losing their minds around the holidays. First a teacher cuts a student’s braid off and acts like it’s OK, and now you have day care workers drugging BABIES so they’ll go to sleep! Lord, have mercy!
