" What Does Martin Luther King Jr. Day Mean To You? ~~~~~~~~~ To be honest "Martin Luther King Jr Day, is not equal. It is a National Holiday observed on the third Monday in January. Holidays are a day to celebrate. Why did hubby and I have to work on Monday? Why do we get Christmas, New Years, 4th of July, off with pay. I know that Labor Day and Memorial Day also fall on a Monday each and every year. We get paid for those days, Why is Presidents Day also observed on a Monday some establishments, choose to close the doors.? If you work for the Government/City, eg. Garbage Collectors, Teachers, Mail Carriers, Bankers, your office is closed. I know times have changed and I know that it not always equal. I can say that I love all the footage from the net and on tv of others observances of MLK JR. I just wish I could have been there in person, with the celebrations that my community appreciates of what this day means to us/me.

I think of it as a day to honor a man who gave his life for the betterment of his people. He was only 39 when he died and that BLOWS my mind! I was born in '68 so now I am older than he was at his death. It sometime hurts my heart that he gave up so much and we as a people have not fully lived up to the potential.
