Married Folks Roll Call Over on Essence.com

bmwkessenceheader

We’ve done it here plenty of times and on Facebook even more but today for the first time we’re taking our roll call over to Essence.com. We intend to show their readers that happily married black folks do exist contrary to popular belief. Click the link and please leave a comment telling us how long you’ve been married and how many kids you have.

As long as people are telling me how college students are saying marriage is for white people we need to hustle to get the word out that we are here and that we love this life. Click here to leave a comment.

    Done. :)

And by the way, I am sooooo saddened that someone would think of marriage as being for White people. Such a shame. What a flawed logic.

I did respond to the roll call. Not sure if I am to state something here as well, but I am indeed saddened that our youth have normalized such erroneous beliefs.

All should read Dr. DeGry’s book–”Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome.” Some of us are broken and don’t even know it. Need to heal. But first come self -awareness and looking at such sweked perspectives from a further vantage point. Her book helps with this.

Dr. Joy Degruy is the correct spelling.

I have been happily married for 7 years and with 40 years of military service between us, 2 kids and 2 new careers, each year is better than the last. Each day I think to myself, OMG…what’s next? How can it get any better? But even though we started out with a great friendship/relationship, it continues to get better and better. Believe me we have our challenges, but they are so much easier to maneuver when you have your best friend at your side to weather any storm. I thank God for every day I get to spend with my wonderful “homie, lover, friend” husband. He is the sun in my little world!

My husband and I have been married for 10 happy years. We have 2 careers and 2 children (7, 3). Being married requires that both people work at the relationship, are willing to comprise, and have a sense of humor. I enjoy being married. Don’t believe the notion that marriage is not for Black people.
