It began as a personal challenge for me, but at the end it became too good not to share. We all know how easy it is to complain about others, especially spouses. Some of us are almost programmed to look for what’s not working. If this sounds like you or someone you know, this 30-Day challenge may be just what you need. I’ve spent the past 30 days looking for 30 great things about my marriage. Not just any old obvious details, but 30 great NEW things. Ones I may have taken for granted or overlooked. Each day I paid special attention to and looked for what was working in our marriage. I’ll spare you all the details of the entire 30 days, but I will highlight some of the surprises and what I plan to do with what I learned. My list looked a little like this:
Day 1: I noticed that my husband wants to make me laugh.
Day 2: When my husband makes a mistake, I don’t have to dwell on it.
Day 3: My husband is pleased when I take an interest in the things he is really excited about.
Day 4: My spouse is still very attracted to me. I used to try and impress him, I have to keep that going.
Day 5: My spouse is very patient with me.
Day 6: I feel safe in my marriage.
Day 7: Everything doesn’t have to be a battle.
Day 8: We can talk about anything.
Day 9: We can fast and have Bible Study together.
Day 10: Our mad never lasts. We just don’t hold on to the anger.
This 30-day challenge helped open my eyes to what’s most important in my relationship and what makes us work. With this new information, I plan to take better care of my marriage. When we know better we do better. I hope others will consider joining me in this challenge and sharing what you learned. I have to admit some days were challenging, but I loved the fact that even during those days, I was able to find a great NEW thing about my marriage.
