Act Like a Kid

When I’ve had a really long day at work or I’m overwhelmed by all the projects sitting on my desk, you know what I do to relieve stress? No, I don’t pop open a bottle of wine and even turn on a yoga DVD.

I color. I sit with my kids and put out crayons, markers and sheet from their coloring book and start coloring. It’s a little weird, but I have so much fun with them. I don’t think about anything else but what color I want to make Pooh’s honey pot, or if I should color Tigger orange or just go crazy and color him purple.

When faced with all the adult “stuff” in our lives – bills, job stresses, illnesses – sometimes it’s great to just kick back and act like a kid.

What’s your favorite way to unwind, kid style?

Tara this is GREAT!!! This goes against all the “house” rules I grew up with as well as the house rules their father laid out. He still has no idea so shhhhhh! I gather the kids(total of 5 ranging from 8-18), close all the blinds to the house, keep all lights off, and have a hide-and-go-seek session. It gets pretty wild with all the screaming and laughing but it is definitely a stress reliever. I’m giggling as I write this thinking of how silly we get.

You are right on point….switching it up and acting like a kid reminds me that sometimes simple and small things bring about big smiles. My kids call me the tickle monster LOL. I also enjoy playing hungry hungry hippos with my family. Aiyana and I frequently bring out the uno cards to escape for a few moments and when the kids go to bed…..we pillow fight…LOL

At our house, we favor the wonders of …PLAY DOH! Nothing relieves stress like squishing plah doh thru the that doo hickey to make his hair grow…

@Cheryl – Play Doh is AWESOME. Aww, man, I should buy stock in it. It’s so good.

@Ayize – Pillow fights are great stress relievers – who DOESN’T laugh at the end?

@ Connie – Hide and go seek is fun. I haven’t played that in a while. I need to start a game this weekend :)

This new website that I have written above has a kids contest going on right now. You can submit your child’s painting or coloring. Once your kids’ picture is posted on the website, you can show friends and families to view. Kids like that. So don’t forget to check out http://www.BlackInNorthAmerica.com to submit your child’s painting or coloring.

We used to have DVD (usually a cartoon we’ve watched a billon times) night every Friday. They laugh at me b/c I fall asleep. Now that I am married its family night. We crawl up in the bed, my son used to jump on my head, but now he’s too big! Everyone loves it. I love it.

My husband and I do this, and it’s so much fun! We run around our house screaming, throw pillows at each other, color, and more. I think it’s not only a way to relieve personal stress, but also a way for the two of us to bond and fall even more in love with each other.

My 12 year old daughter attends dance class every saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. After I pick her up and we get back home, we turn on the radio in the kitchen and she shows my 4 year old son & myself what she learned at class that day. Then after she’s done, that’s when the party starts… We dance to every song that comes on the radio, rather it be fast or slow. Then we whip out the Play-Doh and Uno cards!!!! But the highlight of our Saturday is when the hubby comes in from hanging out with his boys n cranks up the grill n we chill out on our deck reading while he prepares dinner for us!!!!!!! ILUVMESUMTHEM!!!!!!
