I thought that this tribute was lacking. I wish that he would have gotten a chance to perform. Actually I wish he would have played while the others performed. I can't believe Patti kicked off her shoes.

    Peace, Love and Chocolate

I to thought the tribute was lacking much. Prince 's contributions were far too great. A medley of his top hits would have been a nice touch, like Little Red Corvette, Rasberry Beret, Diamonds and Pearls, just to name a few. Patty has the pipes, but no one, I mean NO ONE can sing Purple Rain like Prince. I do think Ms Monae's performance was great. Shame on you BET.

Patti Labelle is a Legend she can do what ever she wants, so sit down somewhere.
Prince is great with the Rock & Roll but he still doesn't like black girls !!!!!!!!!!

Oh that was AWESOME… BIG THANKS for posting, because I missed it last night! @Sunt97, girrrrrl you've never been to see Ms. Patti perform… she ALWAYS 'sangs' out of her shoes!! :0)

I wasnt to impressed. Alicia and Patti did there thing but besides that I felt like something was missing and it was probably prince because nobody can sing his songs except for him! I think he shouldve joined in, that might have made the tribute better.

true that! I waited all night to see Prince performed. BET led us on to believed that Prince would performed– that was not right!

Thanks, I missed the show. Had the grandbaby and I was knocked out after she left. Glad that you posted the ladies singing. Yes Patty and Fantasia always take their shoes off, maybe it makes them hit those high notes. LOL.

It would have been nice had he joined in, he is a perfectionist and maybe he knew the agenda and chose to look pretty sitting down. Sorry but BET is BET. Sometimes it's not that organized on award shows. I will catch the re run though. We know they will air it 1000 times. I love me some Prince.

Alicia and Patty killed it!! The other 2 ladies – Eh! They could've gotten somebody else to join in to sing his tribute with Patty and Alicia…maybe Jamie Fox? Have Morris Day there? Prince sing at least one?

I have to agree with Chocolate Mom – Alicia and Patty set it off most probably because they have true talent. As for the others – what was BET thinking?

  • Ayana

I didnt care for any of them. Not even Patty. Aside from Screaming, notice how she sings very few of the lyrics. Alicia Keys is truly talented can perform way better and since when does she wiggle and writhe on her piano. I always thought she was classier than that. I think Prince was dishonored with this lineup.

For those of us familiar and supportive of his career, you have to know that no tribute was going to be sufficient. They would have had to use the whole show and have all the different versions of his band represented. I’m talking from Andre Simone to Maseo Parker. And they still would find a way to screw it up. At the very least the channel got a chance to showcase some future talent, a true follower of his career and a really good friend of his. I was a little surprised that Chaka Khan did not do her part but they likely had time restraints due to that El DeBarge mini concert, but whatever. Give BET some credit, they were smart enough to know that no one truly covers his songs well but women do it much better than men.

YOu know what you look and a show and is very quick to judge what somebody else does. You evidently are not talented enough to be in the same company as some of these artist. So the next time they honor Prince, make sure you perform for him so that it may be an accomplished shoe. This goes to all the haters that criticize what BET has done. If you think about it Prince's music reaches generation after generation and will continue to reach people long after you haters move to someone else to criticize. Leave well enough alone and let sleeping dogs lie. You had the nerve to get on Alcia Keys for wiggling on her own piano, its called performing something you evidently know nothing about. Just watch the show and keep your comments to yourself.

WACK. Prince, like Teena Marie, is passion personified. Only passionate singers like Maxwell and Jill and D'Angelo have a right to pay tribute IMO Mx

The tribute was just okay. Patti of course was the best! I was scared Alicia was going to fall off the piano. I wanted her to be still lol
