AUDIO: BMWK’s Lamar Talks Marriage Education on NPR’s Tell Me More With Michel Martin

by Lamar Tyler

I recently had the chance to take part in a discussion on marriage education on the NPR program, Tell Me More which is hosted by Michel Martin. I was joined on the interview with Ellen McCarthy of the Washington Post and Dianne Sollee of Smart Marriages fame :-) . Ellen just wrote a great piece in this weekend’s Washington Post Magazine asking Why Do So Many Couples Divorce? Maybe They Just Don’t Know How To Be Married. You can check out the audio of the interview below.

Education is the answer to so many questions and healthy strong marriage is no exception. We can all learn skills to be better couple partners and certainly conflict resolution skills. AND it's actually fun to learn these things with the person you love. We need a fundamental shift in the perspective that it's a deficit to have more to learn about being in a relationship. Who doesn't have more to learn. And who wouldn't want to have the best relationship ever. Let's keep encouraging skill building for couples.

Which is why we make sure anyone who wants to do it, can do it online, in their living rooms! PowerofTwoMarriage.com if you're looking for resources.

        Thanks for the resource!

I think it would benefit all of us to move the discussion further upstream to dating/relationship education. It would certainly increase the interest in marriage and avoid some of the biggest missteps within a marriage - like marrying the wrong person or marrying for the wrong reasons.
