I found this amazing poem on facebook. It was written and performed by Joshua Bennett who has also performed at the White House for President Obama.

Didn't know what to expect from the title and all the stuff you see nowadays but was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed.

I'm only 18 and wow I really needed this, because where I come from the young black men put the black women down because we dont have skin the color of cotton, they put us down for our cuves and independent mind set. So again thank you. GOD BLESS

I am only 23 and I understand where you are coming from. If we are not pale skinned, bony, figureless and giving them money, then the black men want nothing to do with us. What they fail to remember is that it was a white woman that got the snot beat out of Raymond Till in the state of Mississippi. The sad thing is they forget that when nobody else(the white woman or another woman that isn't black) was there for them, they looked to a black woman for guidance. Most of them still do, they just don't want to be with us because we are strong willed and refuse to let them walk all over us and because of that they choose the white woman and it's sad because they make us fell like we're losing the race which shouldn't even be the case at all.

Joshua,
Your words resonated so close to my heart. Words cannot express how much I appreciate you for this affirmation!

So many of our women need to hear a positive and empowering message about the value of who they are as the young “womb-end.” She needs to know that she is the beginning and the end of all creation. I just love how this young man embrace “wonderfulness” of the black woman. There is much to learn from this message. In essence of who he has become he knows the wealth from which he comes from.
