Wives on Wives: A Wife Is A Woman Who…

by Eric Payne

Last week on my blog and on its accompanying Facebook Fan page I asked married, female readers to finish the following sentence:

“A wife is a woman who _____________.”

The response was strong and varied, ranging from the deeply spiritual to the comical and without a doubt some comments leaned toward the negative. The following is a list of ten comments from ten different women who were open and honest about what it means and what it takes to be a wife.

A wife is a woman who…

“…has to be strong enough to deal with her husband’s foolishness and still allow him to be a man.”

“…is always there no matter their faults, trusting in him, makes him feel safe and secure, being his strength when he’s weak. just loving him for better or worst…”

“…the one who you look to for the truth as she wants nothing more than to see her husband succeed. She stands by him, encourages him, loves him, confers with him, disagrees with him, agrees with him, works with him, explores with him, hugs him, kisses him, holds his hand, laughs and cries with him. “

“…loves the Lord and shows it through her actions toward her husband.”

“…knows who she is, what shes worth and why she means so much to her husband. loves God and reflects that love in her interactions and words…and absence of words… respects that they’re equally human and is able to gracefully handle imperfect circumstances and situations for the sake of the team (marriage).”

“…has many roles. Chef, Maid, Nurse, Mommy, Handyman, Personal Shopper — the list goes on an on…”

“…who after 27 years of marriage can walk in the room and see his eyes light up–and he smiles after you walk pass him–Then to know if he doesn’t do any of those, you still love him enuff to ask him why–LOL.”

“…holds it down no matter what even when he is wrong or right.”

“…is her husband’s everything. They have become one in God’s eyes. She completes him and he has no complaints (well, sometimes, lol).”

“…when all is right, does her best to manage her household alongside her husband, being particular about keeping everyone fed, clothed, and happy along the way.”

BMWK Wives, now it’s your turn. Complete the sentence:  “A Wife is a woman who _____________.”

A wife is a woman who after 15 yrs of marriage doesn't buy into the myth that she is "Super Woman". She knows that when all is said and done that she has done the best she can do for herself and her family. A wife knows that she has to be true to herself, give herself a break, stop and breath......knowing that the world and family around her will still continue on but much better when she is well mentally, physically, and spiritually! A wife knows that she can do many things....but when the forces of her and her husband combine that they are "Mighty" in this world... A wife knows when to quit, bail out , fight, cry, hold on to and with the help of our "Father" know that the battles , the up's and down's are not our to fight... So quit trying to be "Super woman" and rest in the Lord for he shall hold us and our families!

I asked my husband to answer this question. His response was "...who wears a ring." Then he states, "You got to love me!", then walks away laughing. (He then returns to the room and serves me my lunch) My husband is crazy. A Wife is a Woman who knows when to push her husband and she also knows when to step back and let him be a man.

a wife is the rib that was need for her to breathe. Every beginning and end is God and through marriage she is a reflection of what her mate is. One body, one soul, one spirit.

A wife is a women who.....washes the dishes, kisses the boos away, listens to the school gossip, cooks dinner, gives approval to be on the computer, checks the homework, & directs the kids to take a bath all in one breathe. Then she inhales says prayers with the kids, tucks them in & exhales as she takes time to read her bible, Thanks God for all He has provided, intercedes for her loved ones, & waits on her husband to come so she can give him the attention he needs whether it be an hour or 10 mins. She heads to her bed says another prayer Thanking God for His strength, His wisdom, His favour that got her through her day. Closes her eyes and proudly falls asleep anticipatiing the next day when she gets to do it all over again. Cause a wife is a women who does all that she does simply because she Loves God & her family.

“A wife is a woman who understands her worth and regardless of what nonsense she has gone through; can leave that baggage behind and not allow it to poison her marriage, she knows her own strength and is secure enough to allow her husband to assume his role as provider, protector, mentor, confidant, friend and lover.”

"A wife is a women who is stron enough to help carry the burden of her husband, especially if he is African American, while nurturing the spirits of herself, her husband and her children; furthermore, making sure they are also healthy physically and emotionally. Whew! That is a job.
