I could’ve sworn Toni Braxton was the most famous Braxton, but give it time…and Tamar might come out ahead.
The first episode of “Braxton Family Values” gave us a broad introduction to the Braxton clan as Toni prepares for a benefit concert in Bermuda. Let’s get a rundown of who’s who, shall we?
Traci is the oldest (after Toni). She used to be a singer with her sisters, but around the time they were set to sign to a record label and release their debut album, she became pregnant and was kicked out. (Or left. Not quite sure how things went down exactly). She’s labeled on the show as the “wannabe,” and she’s still bitter all these years later, not quite over not being in the group. But even though she’s bitter, I can tell it’s from a personal pain of dreams deferred, not of the jealousy that Tamar (more on her later) exhibits every time she opens her mouth or looks Toni’s way. “I’m your biggest fan and I’m so proud of you guys,” she tells her sisters after Toni’s concert, as she lets the tears flow
Towanda is the middle sister and she’s Toni’s assistant. She has a husband, but as she puts it, “it’s a marriage of convenience.” Says they are more like roommates. They are allowed to date other people. They sleep in separate rooms. One rule: They can’t bring their dates to the house.) My face at this point? O_0. Tell me they’re joking. I’m so done.
We didn’t get too much about Trina, other than she’s Toni’s other backup singer with a penchant for alcohol. She mentions a shaky relationship with the husband and is labeled as the “party girl.” Mmm-hmmm. More on her later, I’m guessing.
Tamar, Tamar, Tamar. She’s Toni’s other backup singer and the baby of the family. Her husband, Vincent, also manages Toni (as well as Lady Gaga). If you learned anything about Tamar during the episode, it’s that she ain’t happy playing the back. It is clear from this show that she is trying to make a name for herself. Getting loud, storming out of rehearsal, fussing at every turn about being a “doo-wop girl.” By asserting herself as the strongest personality (which I have no doubt she is off-camera as well), she’s trying to get a deal or at least her own show. ”I’m not responsible for nobody else’s career,” she keeps saying over and over again. Chile, we believe you.
They promised us drama and they delivered. Will we continue to watch? Only time will tell.
Did you catch the Braxton sisters on their new reality show? What did you think?
