For the past few months I’ve been working with ConAgra to help fight child hunger. It initially started with a trip to the Los Angeles Food Bank and a very public display that we held in Hollywood to help raise awareness. I know that a lot of you would love to get involved in fighting child hunger in your own communities but you just may not know where to start.
A common question is, what should I give? Just in case this is something that’s on your mind, below is a list of the top 11 food items that you can donate to help fight child hunger.
Now that you know are you willing to take action? I challenge you to make a difference as we head into Thanksgiving. This holiday is about reflecting and showing our thanks and appreciation for what we have. There is no better way to show your appreciation than by doing for others. I recently traveled to a local elementary school here in the Atlanta area and spoke with an amazing teacher who has organized a drive with the kids bringing in food donations. If these kids care enough to get behind the cause then surely you must, right?
This fall, ConAgra Foods is continuing its Child Hunger Ends Here campaign by partnering with Schools Fight Hunger, and thousands of schools across the country to donate 5 million meals to Feeding America throughout the school year. The program will rally schools to participate in a nationwide food and label drive that will result in five million meals donated to America’s hungry kids.
From August through December, there are two simple ways schools, parents and students can help end child hunger in their own communities.
Parents and teachers can visit ChildHungerEndsHere.com to register their school for the program. Every school that participates will be entered for a chance to win one of several prize packs, including the grand prize – $10,000 to fund school field trips.
You can also join the movement online by visiting the ConAgra Foods twitter and facebook pages and the Child Hunger Ends Here website.
Have you ever donated food to your local food bank? Have you taken any steps to fight child hunger? Will you consider organizing a drive at your local school or in your community around Thanksgiving?
