VIDEO: Black Girls Run and Black Couples Do Too!

Ronnie and I are happy to announce that we’ve joined forces with the Black Girls Run movement. We’ll be participating in their inaugural 5K & 10K race here in Atlanta on September 16th, and we’re calling all couples to join us. The co-ed race will be a great opportunity for you and your spouse to join us for a great cause (food insecurity), and to celebrate our relationships at the same time.

Now, we’re not runners by any stretch of the imagination but we have been working out together as we work towards becoming a healthier couple. Training for the Black Girls Run race gives us an opportunity to extend our fitness routine and to spend more time together. We’ll give you regular updates on our progress as we move closer to the September 16th race date, and we want you to do the same.

Below is a video of our first training run together. After you check that out, make sure you scroll down for details on how to join our team for the race. Be sure to check back often as we provide real training tips that will aid your preparation.

Haha...nice video! We need something like that here in Indy! I run a 30-day challenge on my blog called the #GETActive30 Day Challenge. The challenge is to complete 30 minutes of physical activity every day for 30 days. The next challenge kicks off September 1st...you and Ronnie should join as your final prep for the 5k. :) Stephana and I run and walk for 30 minutes every other morning. Walk 10 minutes, run 10 minutes, walk 10 minutes...we are gradually increasing the amount of time we run vs the amount we walk. I do believe it is bringing us closer together...if anything it gives us another 30 minutes of time together.

We're in on the next challenge. We've been doing Insanity ever morning (that's an entirely different post on its own) and it's been fun doing it together.

I wish you guys were too. If you get the urge to hop on a plan in September it won't be too late.

This is great! I'm an avid runner, and I used to live in Atlanta. If I was there, I would participate. I was able to get my husband to start running too, and we ran out first half-marathon together 6/3/2012...nine days before our wedding.

That sounds great Eliss. Did the time running together bring you closer?

It did. We trained together, and we really enjoyed the whole process. He now wants to run two half marathons a year until we're ready for the full marathon. I highly suggest couples do it. You learn a lot about each other that you normally don't get a chance to see on the regular.

I started running with with BGR in Bmore and I love it! Don't think I'll be able to make it down to ATL in Sept. but lots of the ladies from the Baltimore group will so I'll spread the word. I'll be there in spirit :)
