What stood out the most was the tremendous selflessness of her Mom. She let her girl go(does not matter how young she was). She now has the strength and fortitude to become and be anything she wants. What awesome power! Linda

It did bring tears to my eyes.... I would love for my daughter to live out her dreams as well. Letting go is extremely hard and she let go of her daughter living in her home and being there everyday with her to share her with the world and her successes too. I felt proud as I watched it because she was the only african american girl in that "olympian" house and the world knows, it just takes one. It only takes one to step out there into the unknown and deliver superior results to encourage others to do the same. Gabby is not my daughter, but I am so proud of her like she is my own. She gave me that same type of feeling as when Obama came into office, it was the coolness that his daughters were lifted into. It's so cool to be a young black girl...

Wow!!!!! Her story truly brought me to tears. So proud of Gabby and her mother!! I can only imagine how hard it was to let her daughter move so far away at a time when a young girl really needs her mom. But God is so awesome because he allowed the right family to receiver her, to love her and nuture her. I'm about to cry all over again.

Amazing! Gabby's story is a very emotional and touching story. I love the mother's love ans support. Single mothers go to the end of the world for their kids. I truly understand and cried to read her journey. Gabby has made her family proud and her country proud. As a single mother of an up and becoming volleyball player, the Olympics has exposed my daughter to a world of belief. She believes that through god's grace and wonderful roll models such as Gabby Douglas and Destinee Hooker that dreams do come true. Keep up the good work!

Awesome...as the proud parent of a former athlete - i somewhat understand the sacrifices that must be made. Hats off to Gabrielle and her mom and siblings - who understood that you must do what is necessary to fulfill your dreams - even if it means doing the unthinkable...being apart from those you love most. A quote from the Great Debaters: We do what we have to do, so we can do what we want to do. Congratulations!

GOD IS AMAZING!!! This is one of the most powerful displays of His love and creation!!! I often tell people family is not only bloodline, but it is "God's design"! God created two people and placed them so far apart on many different levels, but the love they have in their hearts allowed them to become closer than they ever believed. All to bring the dream of one child to fruition!!! Not know the change and impact it would have on the world! Thank you Mom's for allowing God to use you to show the world what true love really is!!! Congratulations Gabby on your blessing and your dream!!! We love you!!

Amen!! You just know when you are pursuing something that is destined to be - it's there from childhood and you work and develope it...Long before college, the dye has always been cast. As a Mom, it is very difficult to support that development, to guide it and nurture it. May God continue and to bless and keep Gabby Douglas and all those who love and support her. May God grant them all protection and success and pure joy!

This is an amazing story. I was amazed at how she performed with poise and maturity. I have to ask, is her dad not part of her life? I hear he is stationed in Afghanistan, just noone ever mentions him.

My son asked to live in a host home at 15 yrs of age, and it was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. It too worked out for the good, and like Gabby's mom, told him to stay when he wanted to come home, because he had asked for this, and I believed he needed to see it through to the end. I've always believed in the concept of "It takes a Village to raise a Family", but never imagined experiencing it outside of my natural biological family and immediate neighborhood. So, thank God Gabby's mom believed in her and allowed dreams to become reality. Gabby won Gold and said " Praises Go Up and Blessings come down". Loved it! If you believe, you can achieve.

Wow! Absolutely amazing story. Very awe inspiring especially considering the fact that I am a mother to a young girl who aspires to one day become a gymnast. The sacrifices made here were Priceless! Excellent job Gabby, I wish her nothing but many more years of GREATNESS!

This video really touched me. This video is sooo powerful. Her mother said that when she left Abby after their visit, ABBY was a different person, and I know that when parents finally stand up and let their children be independent it propels them into their destiny. Awesome, just awesome!

I loved this story. I watched it a few weeks back and am still inspired. What I didn't like is the fact that African American women were giving her grief about her hair. I know I am getting away from the topic here. But, it really saddened me that we as AAW can't get past the stereotypes regarding our hair. We come from a culture where we can do just about anything to our hair. From being relaxed to coils to straight to curly back to relaxed,we are a unique people and we should be better role models, because this is a form of racism within our race.

being in a home where you were welcomed and loved allowed her reach her potential, this surrogate family was every bit as loving as her real family, so Gabby and her mom were both happy

Gabby, you are a beautiful young lady. Your courage and strength superceeds all. America is the land of opportunities where all things are possible. You proved that was true. My granddaughter is five and she pretends like she's a born ballerina with the cart wheels, dance routines, and pointing of the toes. You helped me to make a decision to invest in her future. Thanks and we love you and your mom.
