Black Gold: More African American Medalists in the Olympics

The USA is back on top in the medal count this morning, partly in thanks to the valiant efforts of Allyson Felix, Carmelita Jeter, Aries Merritt, and Jason Richardson. Track & Field is definitely one sport our community tunes in to, because a lot of our USA representatives look like us. Last night’s events did not disappoint to keep us on the edge of our seats.

In the women’s 200m race, 26 year old Allyson Felix was awarded first place with a time of 21.69, which is the fourth-fastest performance in history. This is Felix’s first individual Olympic gold medal. It’s no surprise though, as her coach, Bobby Kersee (husband of Jackie Joyner-Kersee) previously coached Florence Griffith Joyner, and she received gold in previous Olympic games.

I know it's so great to see so many of our own winning medals, especially the GOLD!! I have to admit though, I wasn't as crazy about Usain Bolt winning because his arrogance stinks!!!! And he even had the nerve to criticize Carl Lewis, that's too bold for me!!

Carl Lewis is misinformed and many don't know of his drug tests. Great athletes should celebrate each other's greatness not sound petty and jealous because someone is better than you. Carl Lewis was great for his time but them came Michael Johnson and now we have Bolt. To a degree they all seem arrogant to us - folks who dont compete at a high level. Usain Bolt is not arrogant - he knows he's good. When you're the best there's a target on your back. I think he handles it well - foreigners aren't used to his persona which i think he puts on just for the media.
