When we sit back and think about some of our favorite TV shows of days gone past, what always stands out are the wedding episodes. Whether it’s cameo appearances by big-name celebrities or just years of anticipation coming to fruition, we loved these shows. Check out the next five pages as we share 5 black TV wedding moments that we couldn’t wait to see!

BMWK – which wedding moments would make your top 5 list?  Don’t you agree that we need to see more of this and less of the mess that we are being shown on TV today? Can you think of any shows today where couples are dating and on their way to marriage?  I can’t.

    I loved A Different World!!! And I loved the passion and tension between Dwayne and Whitley. No, hijacking someone's wedding would not work in the real world. No groom would quietly walk away as Byron did, but NBC played out the two characters so well that the audience WANTED it to happen. It was rather romantic!!!

    I don't care how many times I see this, it's water works at baby please. I loved this show I hope my kids will have something similar. I mean they do have this one but it would be nice for them to have something they could relate to.

    Yes, my absolute favorite. And then when all of a sudden she could say "I do!" to the right man. Loved it!

    There has not been a better wedding than Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert!!!! I love that it played out down to the wire on her marrying Byron... and Dwayne had to tell him, Byron I'm sorry I LOVE HER!!! That's how you claim your wife!!!

    Great list. I would also have to add Rose and Warren from 227 (Kevin Peter Hall and Alaina Reed-Hall), with Luther Vandross to serenade them.

    I agree, Whitley and Dwayne's wedding was it for me! I loved it and still get the same feeling every time I watch it. We need a Different World reunion or at least a show for US that is of the same caliber, not another cheesy, trashy reality show.

    My friend and her husband's wedding song was the Jamie Fox song...it still makes me cry! And I loved Michaels rendition of "You and I" but my only other memory from thier wedding was the career ending injury for Thelma's Hubby at the end. They could never get too happy before drama struck on Good times, SMH! But this article brought back nice memories of my favorite shows from childhood.

    My sorority sister sang "The Day I Married My Angel" at my wedding. It was so beautiful. Loved Jamie and Fancy

    I knew Dwayne and Whitley were going to be on the list before I even saw the picture! That was the best black wedding moment ever. I don't watch a lot of fictional tv anymore but Jamie and Fancy was the last wedding i can remember.

    Thelma Frye & Reverend-Doctor Reuben Gregory!!! That whole wedding series (especially when she joined the army) was super memorable to me!

    I clearly remember watching, "Roots" and seeing Kunta Kinte get married - he jumped over the broom with no feet! Couples today still carry on that tradition today to honor our ancestors, as he did in the movie.

    Jamie and fancy was good too. Dwayne and Whitley .... Classic.. Can never be duplicated Black tv. But Thelma and Rubens wedding was hilarious. Deacon frye is a trip. But lets not forget Martin and Gina with the wedding rehearsal and eloping. Classic.

    Thelma and Rueben was a true funny classic. Also Terry and Damon in Soul Food series a great way to end that show.
