Oprah Winfrey announced via press release that she and director Tyler Perry have struck a multi-year partnership that will bring two new scripted series to the Oprah Winfrey Network. The announcement comes after the network announces a double digit growth in ratings. The series will be the first scripted original content for the new television network, and are set to debut in mid 2013.
The deal will also move Perry’s other scripted series, House of Payne, Meet the Browns, and For Better or Worse exclusively to the OWN network. The shows will join other OWN programs that have brought impressive ratings, including Oprah’s Next Chapter, Our America with Lisa Ling, Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s, and the newest addition, Iyanla: Fix My Life.
Oprah states, “We are all energized by the opportunity to collaborate with Tyler who has a proven track record for producing highly successful cable series. He has an incredible ability to illuminate life stories and characters in his unique voice and inspires and encourages people all over the world.”
Perry is just as excited about the partnership. “It’s a dream realized to partner with Oprah and bring scripted programming to OWN. She has accomplished so much with the network and I’m excited to work with her to be a part of its continued growth.”
We look forward to seeing the original programming and how it will catapult the success of these two.
BMWK – Do you think this new collaboration is a good move for Oprah and the Own Network? Is this a good partnership for Tyler?
