The Fall Season is here, and depending upon where you live you can be caught off-guard by the seasonal change. I live in Indiana, and the weather can be a little unpredictable. One week it could be in the high 80s, but you can find yourself in the 40s in the following days. Or you could wake up to 35 degree weather, and by the afternoon be looking at low 70 degree weather.
If you are new to the area, or just unprepared for this, it can get ugly for you. Think sick, runny nose, body just all jacked up. The same can happen in your marriage.
Marriages go through different seasons as well. If you go through your marriage unaware of this, your marriage can get difficult and ugly. You may be caught off-guard by what is happening in your marriage, and marriage life may seem unpredictable, just like the Indiana weather where I live.
I have experienced unpredictability, both in weather and marriage. Neither are very fun, or very rewarding. However, if you are aware, and prepared for the seasons of marriage, your marriage can thrive.
“The Five Love Languages” author, Gary Chapman, has written another book called “The Four Seasons of Marriage.” The book is built on understanding the seasons and knowing which season your marriage is in, so you are better able to manage your marriage. I encourage you to look at your marriage, see which season you are in, adjust accordingly, and give your marriage the best opportunity to thrive.
“The strength we gain from realizing the season we are in is the understanding that it is just for a season and not a “forever.” Neither our really good or our really tough seasons last for ever ““ it’s just for a season. So when you are financially blessed, hold a little cash back ““ it is just a season. Conversely, when it is raining in your relationship, hold on””it is just for a season.” - Edward Lee
