Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: More Than Just a Man With a Dream

While the words to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream speech are on the hearts and minds of so many today, so are some of the other things that he said. Across the Internet I’ve seen various lists compiled highlighting some of the other words that came forth out of the mouth of a man, who will forever be known as one of our history’s greatest dreamers (and doers). By reading them we have a chance to be made aware of words that many of us may not have known that he said or causes that he stood for. For example, Dr. King supported the idea of “family planning and birth control” in an effort to help the black community have an improved quality of life and a better future.

“For the Negro; therefore, intelligent guides of family planning are a profoundly important ingredient in his quest for security and a decent life. There are mountainous obstacles still separating Negroes from a normal existence. Yet one element in stabilizing his life would be an understanding of and easy access to the means to develop a family related in size to his community environment and to the income potential he can command.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

While Dr. King will always be remembered for his beautiful dream, with a little research we have the ability to remember him for so much more. To read some additional words spoken by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., words that you may not have heard before, visit Ebony.
