Do You Run Errands for the Person You Are Dating?

An article by Essence might have you think twice the next time you offer to pick up your boyfriend or girlfriend’s clothes from the cleaners. Especially common among women is the desire to nurture and care for the people they love. Women often extend their willingness to help whether it is picking up a few things from the market or running some other type of errand for the person they are dating. Turns out that may not be such a good idea after all. Suddenly what are nice gestures move one from the category of girlfriend to “errand girl,” particularly when such gestures aren’t being reciprocated. According to Nathan Hale Williams, author of the article Girl’s Best Friend: Are You His Girlfriend or His Errand Girl?:

Unfortunately, I see this more often than I would like – women who will go to the end of the earth for a man who wouldn’t do the same for them. The men that allow this to go on aren’t boyfriends; they’re users.

Just as much as I fault the men, I also fault the women who are enablers to the situation.

I totally agree, you need to check whether the giving gives back. If you are constantly doing more than the other partner is doing for the other then you need to check yourself and the relationship. Coming from a past relationship where I gave waaay more than I should have.
