Strong Shoulder or Misery’s Company?

by Aja Jackson
I like my husband’s friends. Some of them may have taken some getting used to, but for the most part they are a group of stand-up guys, always ready to lend a helping hand (or two when you’ve had to move heavy furniture as much as we have). Until recently, I’ve never objected to them coming around, or my husband going out with any one of them.
Then two of my husband’s closest married friends started having trouble at home. One day as my husband was filling me in …

Be Sure to Marry with Your Eyes Open (Real Housewives of Atlanta Style)

by Aja Jackson
I will admit it- I rank the Real Housewives of Atlanta high on my list of guilty pleasures but I take a little comfort in knowing that I’m not alone. Four million people tuned in for the premier of the show’s second season eager to watch the guaranteed drama ensue between the five frenemies. Catfights, backstabbing, and wig pulling aside though, the show does offer some occasional unexpected glimpses into the lives of real Black relationships. From Ed Hartwell’s romantic evening for wife Lisa, to NeNe’s willingness to …

10 Research Facts on Marriage and Choosing a Partner

I ran across an interesting article that was in the Examiner. It’s based around 10 research facts on marriage and finding a partner. Some I already knew, some I already figured out and some were new to me so I thought I’d share.

2. The most likely way to find a future marriage partner is through an introduction by family, friends, or acquaintances.
4. Women have a significantly better chance of marrying if they do not become single parents before …

The importance of remaining focused on  your vision as an individual, couple and family is so important during these times. It’s also esssential to note that individual growth does not have to equate to growth apart.
Some changes are taking …

For Worse

by Harriet
A recent Time Magazine article outlined how certain marriages that have withstood troubling times during their early years are virtually unbreakable in the long run. The author stated that hardship for certain couples is “protective, helping solidify their commitment into an unshakable us-vs.-the-world resolve.”
Wow…given these assertions, I guess my marriage is definitely on solid ground. LOL Yet I know if it had not been for the Lord molding us closer together when we were both acting like fools, our story would have turned out …
