Yesterday we ran a story out of LA where the City Council has just passed a law banning any new fast food restaurants from opening up for at least the next year. The law was aimed at encouraging sit down restaurants with healthier menus to open in the area. Well as one of our readers Teems put it, “they need to work more on businesses with healthy-fast food” because sitting down is not always an option. This can’t be more true than when you’re running around with the kids, don’t …

The LA City Council passed a law yesterday that put a one year ban on the opening of any new fast food restaurants in South LA. They’ve targeted this area which has a child obesity rate of 30% when compared to 25% for the rest of the city. Their aim is to encourage more sit down restaurants with healthier food choices to open in the area.

We made it back home even quicker than we expected. For those of you that left comments, TheMom found out that it really was BabyFace at the hotel. According to the bell hop, one of the Detroit Pistons had gotten married at the hotel over the weekend and BabyFace attended the wedding. (We did notice a lot of well dressed negros in the hotel that night and wondered what was going on.) As we were leaving the hotel, a tour bus was roling in. I wondered if …

[Writer's Note: This one's a doozy! You're probably not going to agree with me, and you're certainly entitled so your opinion. But read with an open mind if nothing else. Then flame me.]Every month or so, there seems to be some sorta televised “Townhall Discussion on The State Of Black America”. BET always is airing something or another about hip-hop’s effect on black kids. T(r)avis Smiley’s got his annual …

Today we have a guest post by friend of the blog - one of NC’s best bloggers - Dara who blogs about raising her daughter at Jasiri-Blog and has just started a blog about being green called Eco-Friendly Momma. Feel free to show her some love by visiting her sites and giving your two cents on her post question.
I’m a 28-year-old single woman who has never seriously contemplated marriage.  Recently I’ve wondered from whence my marriage views stem.  I’m beginning to think my reasoning comes from a lack of images of …

(This post is from both of us)
We’ve wrapped up our mini vacation and it’s time to get back to the grind. We definitely needed a break for work and getting away from the kids for a few days always does wonders for the relationship. Some of the highlights of our trip included:

Meeting up with some fellow bloggers and putting faces with names.
TheMom’s highlight was seeing Babyface one morning when we were in the workout room of our hotel. I was laughing at her as she tried to keep her cool.
Catching …

When I was little, if I was cutting up all my mother had to do was look at me and I would straighten up right then and there. It was a look that she gave me that told me that I was one step away from getting jacked up. It was the signal.  For my mom, her lips would get tight and her brow would get wrinkled and her normally big beautiful eyes would almost get a little squinty. And she would just stare at you.  You could be acting …

A while back when TheMom was pregnant I wrote about how jobs have no love for dads because a lot of them don’t offer any type of leave when you have a child (other than burning your vacation), they only do that for women.
Well I was reading a book about fatherhood and it covered a topic that got me to thinking. There was a situation (real life) where a man told his boss he needed to leave at noon because his son was ill and his boss replied, “Why can’t …
