What Do You Think About The Morehouse Dress Code?

by Lamar Tyler
As you’ve probably heard by now Morehouse College has instituted a new dress code on the campus of the all-male school in Atlanta. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution some of the new restrictions are:
* no caps, do-rags and/or hoods in classrooms, the cafeteria, or other indoor venues
* no sun glasses worn in class or at formal programs
* no jeans at major programs, as well as no sagging pants on campus
* no clothing with derogatory or lewd messages either in words or pictures
* no wearing of clothing usually …

Two Extremes

by Harriet Hairston
When I was a child, my parents always told me that they wanted what was best for me, and if anyone ever messed with me, they would gladly go to jail to ensure I was safe.  As a parent now, I totally understand that sentiment.  Both my parents were very protective of my brother and I, and we were never hurt or abused as long as we remained within the safety of their set boundaries.
However, in Florida, a case is playing out before the public …

Are Your Parents The “B” Grandparents?

By Tara Pringle Jefferson
Ever since I became a card-carrying member of the Parenthood Society, I’ve noticed a trend.
When both sets of grandparents are still alive, the maternal grandparents more than likely are the “A’ grandparents, the ones that the kids prefer. The paternal grandparents, while still cool, tend to occupy “B” status.
My kids are still a little too young to have favorites, but already I’m noticing my side of the family comes around a lot more often than my husband’s. I also notice that when my husband’s …

My Wife Is NOT My Friend (On Facebook)

On Facebook, my wife is NOT my friend. I un-friended her about two months ago. Not only did I not tell her what I did, but once she discovered we were no longer connected, I ignored her request to become my friend once more…

The Name Game

By Aja Dorsey Jackson
Before my husband and I got married, I remember going back and forth for a few days with myself over what I wanted as my married name. At the time my husband told me he pretty much didn’t care. I ended up dropping my maiden name completely and taking my husband’s last name as my own based primarily upon the fact that I like the way my middle name sounds with my first name.
Now if you are actually looking at my name under the title of this …

Little Things Mean A Lot

I lost my sense of taste and smell this weekend.  Imagine my misery.  I ate and was not satisfied.  I turned the humidifier on and could not smell the Vicks.  It made me think about the little things I take for granted.
For example, my son always asks for a kiss, then proceeds to request a hug right after that.  Sometimes it irks me, because he asks at the worst possible time…like when I have to go to the bathroom, or when I’m rushing out the door to get to work.  …
