2012 “Eye On Black” Salutes Martin Lawrence, Debbie Allen and More

Along with the Academy Awards, this weekend, Los Angeles will be abuzz with stars for another event: the 2012 “Eye on Black”. Started in 2010 by The Kartel Company, the annual soiree serves as the largest salute to African American directors, recognizing black filmmakers whose work has assisted in shaping the black experience on the silver screen. This year, Eye on Black will honor Martin Lawrence, Chris Robinson, and Haile Gerima, with Debbie Allen receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. The salute will be held Friday, February 24 by Centric for the second consecutive year, and hosted by Brandon T. Jackson.

A portion of all proceeds will go toward the funding of the “˜Eye On Black Foundation” 501c non-profit creation, centered around funding community based projects for African Americans in the areas of art, education, and small business empowerment. This comes at a time where funding for the arts is being cut at schools across the nation.
