Tamara Mowry

Just short of a year and a half after her sister gave birth to son, Cree, Sister, Sister star, Tamera Mowry-Housley, is expecting a baby any day now. She and husband, Adam Housley, decided not to reveal their son’s name until after he’s born.

The anxious, soon-to-be mom recently tweeted, “Had a dream about my son. Woke up wanting to hold him,” but admits she is taking time to enjoy the peace and quiet before her delivery. Mowry-Housley, who plans to have a natural birth, gained some practice in parenting in her role as a mother of a 10-year-old boy in GMC’s television movie,  Christmas Angel, due to premier later this year.

Mowry-Housley expressed her feelings of waiting and wanting on her guest blog for People writing, “If I have yet to learn patience, my son is in the process of teaching me now. I have learned that I am not in control and that he will decide when he comes,” she writes. “However, I have not been as receptive as I want to be to his timing. If I am completely honest”... at this stage, I want this baby out!”

Sister, Tia, will be with her through the childbirth, but is skeptical that her sister will be able to handle the pain of a natural birth, she told Us Weekly.

“She is my sister and we can’t take the pain. Pain and us, we just don’t mix. She is trying to be brave, which is good… but I don’t think she is going to make it.”

When I had my son (less than 4 months ago) I had no plans of “going natural”. Now, if by natural you mean you prefer a vaginal delivery, sure. But as far as no pain medicine? No way. I was in labor for 17 hours after being induced and I was very thankful for the epidural in hour 5. And you know what? My baby and I are both fine. :)

Hurricane Sandy & The Beauty of Strong, Protective Men

Hurricane Sandy was terrible, vicious and fearsome in its power. The storm blew relentlessly through the North East, devastating much in its path. Prayers go out for those  who’ve  lost lives, health, and property in the devastation. There is certainly some rebuilding to be done!

In the wake of the Hurricane, I wondered what I would have done without the presence and vigilance of my husband. I realized that I would certainly have been so much more afraid (and certainly more alone) had he not been there to take charge in ways that I could not. Watching him take charge of the situation made me so deeply grateful that he is mine, and I am his.

That realization made me wonder what qualities women see in the men they date, love and eventually marry, that assure them that they have a man who is a capable and reliable protector able to lead the family through literal and figurative storms.

Head over to MunaluchiBridal.com to see what qualities her husband possessed when they were dating to let her know he would be a great protector and supporter in marriage.

BMWK – if you are dating, what qualities are you looking for in a man to let you know he will be a great protector in marriage?  Do you think it is important that men are able to “protectors” in a marriage and that you can depend on them to handle certain things?
