Family vacation season is quickly approaching, so we thought it would be a good idea to sneak in a fabulous couples’ getaway to one of our favorite islands, St. Lucia! A vacation on a beautiful Caribbean island is great, but a vacation during St. Lucia Jazz, on the other hand, is fabulous!

The St. Lucia Jazz and Arts festival is considered one of the Caribbean’s most popular music events. Past performers have included Toni Braxton, John Legend, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle and Rihanna. This year’s lineup is musically diverse and fantastic in its own right. St. Lucian reggae band ‘4th World’ is performing.   Ginuwine, violinist Karen Briggs, Tito Puente, Jr., the legendary Ojays, The Jacksons (yeap those Jacksons) and Akon are all set to grace the festival stage. 2013 continues to be the year of the ‘R,’ R. Kelly that is , as he closes the festival on Sunday May 12th with what is sure to be an unforgettable performance.

St. Lucia is a perfect destination for a romantic weekend getaway, anniversary celebration or a stroll on the beautiful beach. During your festival down time, sneak away and enjoy the wonderful shopping at the local shops, or a fabulous massage at one of the well known spas. The food on the island is simply delicious. Top chef Orlando Satchell (he was 2005’s chef of the year) has opened his own restaurant called ‘Orlando’s.’ Try one of his famous watermelon martinis, I guarantee you’ll love it!

For more information on the complete lineup of performers, please visit www.stluciajazz.org. Boutique hotels on the island are usually booked six months in advance for the jazz festival, but there are fabulous deals still available with savings of up to 50% off. Visit www.stlucianow.com to book your hotel package for jazz.

Enjoy!

Be Happy. Be Fabulous. Be Well Traveled.

The kids will be getting out of school for summer break at the end of next month and some in early June. A lot of family’s choose to fly off to a fabulous family vacation while others choose to pack up the family and hit the road. If a roadtrip is in the family’s summer vacation plans, we have a few tips for you to help make it a stress free fun experience.

1. Rest stop…After the car has been serviced and cleaned up for the trip, Moms & Dads take a look at the map and pick a middle point for a bathroom break, chance to gas up the car again and to enjoy a nice meal.

2. Me time…Make sure everyone has their own favorite electronic gadget (cell phone, PSP, Kindle, iPad etc.), the chargers (car and wall), and their headphones. If everyone has their favorite gadget, most of the trip will be spent playing their own games, reading, watching movies etc. during their own personal quiet time.

3. Game time…When everyone grows tired of doing their own thing, its then time for the roadtrip/car games. So, have several car games in your arsenal (if your kids are around the age to enjoy them…lol). Here’s a link to a few cool roadtrip games.

4. Movie/TV time…If your car/van/SUV has an onboard DVD player, grab a few of the family’s favorite movies for the roadtrip. Don’t forget you can also rent movies from your local library or hit up Redbox! (LOL) With locations everywhere you can return it when you arrive at your destination. You can also use your iPad as the DVD player. Download the Netflix app, the apps for your favorite networks and also (I just discovered this…I know I’m late yall) download the app for your cable provider. Once you download that app you can watch the same networks you watch at home, on your iPad/tablet. Fabulous!

5. Snack time…Load up on everyone’s favorite snacks. Visit your favorite grocery store, Wal-Mart or discount store and buy a set of snacks for each leg of the trip. Keep in mind that snack foods cost more at hotel/resort gift shops.

Roadtrips are great opportunities to reconnect with your family members after a hectic/busy school year and a fabulous way to see the country side. So pick a destination, load up the car and the kids and roll out. Be happy and have a safe and fun roadtrip and family vacation this summer.
