When we generally think of stress, we think of it as the main reason we want to go on a vacation. (LOL) The reality of it is that planning, packing and unexpected events while traveling can all lead to monumental stress.  Recently I interviewed the ‘Stress Manager’ Chere Cofield and she shared with me a few fabulous tips on managing and eliminating vacation related stress.  So BMWK family without further delay, here are eight fabulous tips to help you manage and eliminate vacation related stress.

  1. The first and most important tip is to plan ahead.  The old adage ‘if you fail to plan, plan to fail’ also applies to planning the family vacation.  Plan your vacation months in advance making sure that every detail and desire is planned accordingly.
  2. Once the destination has been chosen, start packing early and don’t wear those fab destination outfits leading up to your vacation.  This will eliminate the need to do extra laundry and save you time as your vacation draws closer.
  3. Our third valuable tip is to meet with your spouse and plan out all vacation activities (considering what every member of the family likes to do).
  4. The fourth tip is to plan at least one day to ‘do absolutely nothing but relax!’
  5. Our next tip is one I have learned the hard way, ‘don’t travel with valuables.’  Leave that irreplaceable piece of jewelry and that professional grade camera at home. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Crime on a vacation will add extreme levels of stress and possibly ruin your vacation.
  6. The sixth tip is very important and that is to add one extra day to your time off to regroup once you’ve returned home.  Let’s face it traveling to and from your vacation is a tiring process in itself.
  7. On departure day request a late check-out (a lot of hotels/resorts offer this one as a courtesy).  This way you don’t have to feel rushed on your last vacation day.
  8. Tip number eight is directly related to number seven.  Plan a later flight so there’s no pressure or need to rush to the airport.

With tips 7 and 8 in place, you can enjoy one last fabulous breakfast and lunch at your favorite resort restaurant/cafe (and save a little money on airport food).

I hope these tips help you have a stress free, fun and fabulous vacation this summer.

BMWK – please share tips that help to make your vacations stress free and enjoyable.

Sesame Place

Now that we have all read the wonderful tips for traveling with toddlers by Sheree Adams, where do we take them in the summer to burn off some of that energy?  We all love a good theme park visit, but the mega theme/amusement parks are sometimes too crowded or overwhelming for our younger adventurers/toddlers.  So with that in mind we have a few cool theme park suggestions for  families with toddlers.

If your kids love Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster and Elmo, this is the theme park for them.  Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA., the theme park for Sesame Street fans.  It’s a family favorite but often forgotten and overlooked.  Sesame Place is home to ‘Bert and Ernie’s Slip and Slide, Sky Splash and Splash Castle.’  Some of our favorite rides include:  Big Bird’s Balloon Race, Elmo’s Cloud Chaser and Cookie Mountain.  Wind up your day of Sesame Place fun with the coolest kid musical around,  ‘Elmo Rocks!’  The kids can also enjoy character parades, meet and greets and more.

Kids 2 and under are totally free and for a limited time you can save $10 on weekday admissions when you purchase tickets online.  For more information visit www.sesameplace.com or call 866-GO-4-ELMO.

Another hidden theme park gem for toddlers is Planet Snoopy!  Open 10a-10p daily, Planet Snoopy is located inside the popular Dorney Park theme park in Allentown, PA.  Home to 16 rides and a Peanut (themed) kid sized roller coaster, kids also enjoy daily meet and greets with all the Peanuts gang characters. You never know who you are going to run into because Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Peppermint Patty and of course our favorite beagle Snoopy are all waiting to play with the kids.  Fan favorite rides at Planet Snoopy include:  Peanuts Road Rally, Linus Launcher, Sally’s Swing Set and Snoopy’s Moon Bounce.

Planet Snoopy is the place to be for all fans of the Peanuts gang.  For more information and to save on daily passes, visit www.dorneypark.com or www.planetsnoopy.com or call 610-395-3724.  If you are not comfortable taking your little adventurers to the super crowded mega theme parks, check out these options and you’re sure to have fun at their first theme park visit.

BMWK family, do you have a suggestion for a theme park that would be fun for toddlers?  Let us know and we will check it out!
