Tomorrow is the premiere of the Jem and the Holograms movie and everyone in our home is excited. (Well almost everyone…Lamar has contained his excitement…lol.)  But the girls and I are getting ready for movie night on Friday and we may even dress up in honor of Jem.

So here are 5 reasons we’re so excited about #JemTheMovie:

  1. I loved the animated series that premiered in the 1980’s.
  2. It’s now something my girls and I can share together….and I actually understand it and can talk about what’s going on. (I mean really…you should hear our conversations about the shows they watch. They say I just don’t get it.)
  3. We love their style. It was cool back then and it is still cool today.
  4. We now have inspiration for their Halloween costumes which, by the way, will be very affordable because we have all of the necessary items at home.  I mean who doesn’t have a blue or pink wig and finger-less gloves at home.
  5. And my girls are musicians. So I am hoping this will inspire them to let loose and be confident about their talents.

Last night, the girls and I searched the house for items to make a Jem and Holograms Halloween costume. We also plan on using this make-up tutorial to get their makeup just right!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Marie Callender’s. The opinions and text are all mine.

I moved away from home when I was 18 years old to go to college. And at first, I was happy to be freeeeeee! I was liberated. I could do what I wanted, I could stay out as late as I wanted. And, I didn’t have to ask permission for anything.

All of that was great….but there was one thing that I quickly realized when I went home for the first time on Thanksgiving break.

There’s no place like home!

Even now that I am in my 40s, as soon as I walk into my parent’s home, the first breath that I take brings back memories of my childhood.

First of all, if my mom knows I’m coming to town, then she’s cooking all of my favorites. So those delicious aroma’s hit me as soon as I walk in the door. But beyond that, I feel the love and security that my parents always ensured we had growing up. And it makes coming home the best feeling ever…no matter how old I get.

And those are exactly the feelings I want my kids to have as they grow up and leave the house. I want them to know that there is always one place in this world that they can go that will make them feel loved, safe, and secure. I want coming home to feel like being wrapped in a soft warm fuzzy blanket.

So there are 3 things I am doing to ensure that my kids will always love to come home:

  1. Give them unconditional love. This one is big and I’ve had to learn it the hard way with my oldest child who is 22 years old. Your kids need to know, whether you agree with their life-decisions or not, that you still love them.
  2. Cook good food. I learned this one from my mom. Her good cooking always has me wanting to come home…every time!!!
  3. Create great family memories. No one wants to come home to a place that represents bad memories. This is why we go out of our way to make sure that our home provides plenty of love, laughter, and security for our kids.
